NAMES OF THE CROMWELLIAN ADVENTURERS FOR LAND IN
IRELAND

"Adventurers for Land in Ireland"
To finance Cromwell's campaign to put down the "rebellious" Irish who just
could not accept English rule, Parliment devised a scheme where every person
who contributed was to receive estates and manors of 1000 acres , and lands
proportionatley for less sums.
In Ulster the price was 200 pounds, Connaught, 300, Munster, 450, Leinster
600.
This Act of Subscription began in 1642 and in 1653 Ireland was declared
subdued and the lands were given out. Some of the Adventurers had
died or sold or assigned their Adventures. Some of the Adventurers were
Irish,
living in England or Ireland.

Prendergast's "Cromwellian Settlement of Ireland".
The list of surnames ONLY begins on page 699, vol. 2 of "Irish Pedigrees"
by John O'Hart. The two vols. of this book are found in most genealogy
libraries or available by Inter-Library Loan.
