I enjoy watching Rugby League and Union on the TV and am looking forward to the and have just finished watching the current final games in the Six Nations competion. France won, Ireland took the triple crown. Scotland made some big changes with a fair result.
I take a keen interest in athletics, having in my teens and twenties been a member of Thurrock Harriers of Essex and the RAF 11 Group Athletics being based at Tangmere in Sussex. This active interest commenced in 1948 when the Olympic Games was last hosteed in London at Wembley Stadium. I am pleased that to hear that after a gap of 64 years England is again hosting the Games in 2012 and I hope to live long enough to see the finals of the marathon.
Other interests include walking ( though not a lot these days), reading history and family history books and magazines about computers. Singing with the Weston-super-Mare Choral Society and Victoria Methodist Choir.
My key interests after my family being computing and genealogy. I am a member ot the Society of Genealogists and of the Essex Society for Family History whose publications and magazines have been most helpful and stimulating.

MY FAMILY My father' s GOSNALL family moved from the Essex/Suffolk border to London's Dock area at some stage between the birth of my grand-father at Lawford, Essex in 1844 and the 1851 UK census when they are found in Tower Hamlets, London. Ten years later the had moved furthe East and in the 1861 UK Census are in Shoreditch. Both my Grandfather and Great Grandfather had lost their wives and they had new partners. in 1881 my grandfather is at Pennyfields, Poplar. The 1837 Online Index has revealed that there were more children than we ever knew about with several additional births and childhood deaths. The 1891 Census records that they had left the East End and arrived in Grays Thurrock probable as the result of the construction of Tilbury Docks. As my grand-father's were Dockers. My grand-mother Margaret SWEENEY Jnr. came to London's East End from Limerick Ireland maybe as a result of the potato famine they were hatters and tailors and I have found Margaret with her parents in the 1851 and 1861 UK census returns. My Mothers BUTTELL family are shown in early census records and the IGI as resident in the Stifford and South Ockendon area to the North West of Grays Thurrock. Mum's CARTER family came into Grays Thurrock from North Benfleet and Canvey Island and arrived in Little Thurrock sometime before the 1861 UK census.

OUR FRIENDS We have made many friends through out the UK whom we have met and come to know during over forty years service associated with the Railway Industry from the time when I first commenced employment as a Movements Controller with British Rail for twenty one years. Then from 1979 and the next seventeen years as a Trade Union Official with the Transport Salaried Staffs'Association. While Sylvia became a Secretary with the British Railways Board
More recently I have have been finding people who share my interest in genealogy on the Internet, but as yet do not know them well enough to put up their links here. They have helped me and encouraged me in locating branches of Sylvia's family and my own that I would never have found but for the internet and sites such as this. I have also derived much satisfaction having been able to assist others in their quest to locate their roots.
