The Family Of My Wife's Father.

Ernest George NEWTON my wife Sylvia's father was born in1891 at Pimlico,London. He was the son of David and Alice NEWTON.  Sylvia's Grand-father David with others of his family worked as drapers. They had come to London from Swinderby, Lincolnshire at some stage prior to the 1881 census.

David and his brothers and one sister were the children of Charles and Mary NEWTON who from Baptismal Certificates we know were members of the Wesleyan Chapel at Swinderby, Lincolnshire.

More recent research brought to my attention during 2001- 2004 suggest that they were Charles NEWTON of Thorpe on the Hill born 1814 and Damaris CURTIS and that Charles' younger brother John who was in 1881 dwelling at Ebeneezer House, Thorpe on the Hill had left bequests to David and Walter their sons.

Sylvias grand-mother, Alice NEWTON formerly AUSTIN was born in 1861 at Diss, Norfolk, In 1881 at the age of 20 she was the Manager of a Drapery business in Diss. Her older sister Bessie is residing at Wandsworth Road, Lambeth with her husband John Curtis NEWTON a Draper and born Swinderby and we think a son of Charles and Damaris NEWTON.

Whilst this is awaiting authentication at this time it appears to bear out other information about the family recorded in a Victorian Birthday Book found when we moved from London back to the West in 2001.

If this is authenticated it takes Sylvia's Father's line back to Woolsthorpe Manor the home of Sir Issac Newton

The photo above shows Albert GOSNALL as a Corporal in the Royal Air Force Fire Service in 1956. Below is Sylvia NEWTON taken in her back garden at Raeburn Avenue in West Kirby. They met at the Sunday Half Hour at Westbourne Road Methodist Church which welcomed the Young RAF recruits into their fellowship during their training. The large photo was taken in March 1958 when the married after a period of over three years as pen pals.
