Dear Giles, Willow, Xander and Cordelia,

It's finally over, Angelus is dead and Angel is at peace. I know that he would have wanted it this way but that doesn't make it any easier for me to accept that I shall never see him again. I love him with everything that I am and I always shall. He was my light, driving away the darkness and now that he has gone there is nothing left for me but the shadows.

I have finally realised that I don't belong in your world. I am as much a creature of the night as the vampires that I slay and my presence in your lives has brought you nothing but pain. I love you all but you won't ever see me again. I shall do my duty to the bitter end and I shall watch over and protect you for as long as I live but that is all. I should never have tried to lead a normal life; so much of this could have been prevented if I had just done my duty.

Please don't regret what can't be changed, instead lead long and happy lives and savour every moment that you have with the people you love. I know you, so I know that you'll look for me. You won't find me. Don't blame yourselves for this, a slayer was never supposed to have family and friends so the time I spent with you was a special gift. Remember that I love you and know that I shall treasure the memory of your friendship forever.
