The town of  Jang-jang Bureh

The town of Jang-Jang Bureh has a dark colonial past under it's old Colonial name of Georgetown. The building in the far background is the old Portuguese slave house . The Building on the right in the foreground is the old British slave house . The island was extremely important during the slave trade . Slaves would be brought down the river from inland west Africa and held on the island before being transported to Goree island off the coast of Senegal . From there to be dispatched to plantations in the Caribbean and America.
