John's English Sterling Silver Baby Cup from Grandmother Mrs. John Drew (Louisa Lane). Inscribed "Jack from Mum-mum Dec 25 '83"
John's book 'The Death of the Gods' 3rd Edition 1904 with 6 pages of his notes and sketches (and unfortanetly some water damage - well I think its water!!).
John decided to brighten up the front cover of Dolores' 'BOOKLET OF GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE EXPECTANT MOTHER' by John Vruwink, MD.
This sketched water color was done on a piece of note paper (folded into a card) which has printed inside 'Sixty-seven east ninety first street'.
Could it have been a rough sketch for his famous painting praising the spiritual ascendancy of women (pictured in Michael Strange's RESURRECTING LIFE book) and which he later destroyed ? This smaller version has been glued into one of Dede's Baby Books.
Maurice Costello's diary notes from Oct 23 - Dec 31 1925. He had a very unhappy family life and John's courting of Dolores, didn't help things!
Above & Below: Dolores' personal scrapbook from the early to late 20's. Contains photos, letters, telegrams, newspaper clippings etc. Below is a letter addressed to the Very Gracious Barrymores on board SS Virginia (1/8/29) from a fellow passenger (Frank G. Menke - King Features Syndicate), A typed Newspaper office note from Dolores & Jack to Mama and Helene (1/9/29).
Below: 2 Telegrams from Dolores & Jack (1/1/29) sent whilst on their honeymoon onboard the SS VIRGINIA to Mae and Helene Costello.
Above & Below: The first of Dede's baby books. Telegrams, cards and letters (including her first 'mash' note!) from well wishes adorn the first few pages.
2nd Dede Baby Book has the Barrymore family Logo and DB monogram
"Congratulations! Getting rid of that rotter! One of YOUR old picture fans." is the last note in the above scrapbook which starts happily enough with clippings of family trips to Alaska and Mexico, John in 20th Century but then begins the 'Caliban/Ariel' fiasco.
