Friday

We didn’t return to the Aloha Stadium until Friday, doing a round island tour on Thursday instead. Lou added two more signatures to her ball – CB Troy Vincent (Phi) and strong safety Corey Chavos (Min).

Friday afternoon saw the start of the NFL Experience at Kapiolani Park in Waikiki. We popped down and enjoyed trying to kick field goals, bungee runs, mingling with mascots and looking around at the stalls.

Ian's Field Goal is wide left. Rob Hart sleeps easy in his bed.

During the afternoon, there was a chance to win tickets to the 25th Anniversary Pro Bowl concert and party at the Waikiki Shell, featuring KC & the Sunshine Band. Firstly, you had to run up to the stage (easy!), then you had to name a KC song (easy – That’s The Way I Like It!). Finally, you had to sing the song you’d named. Lou did her best and somehow, the clapometer chose her! So Saturday’s plan to watch Radio on the beach changed.

Lou watches on as a fellow contestent sings for tickets. Poor fool. The game is already over.

After this we headed off to the Aloha Tower for the Pro Bowl Block Party. There was a stage set up in the middle of the shopping centre, which had appearances by mascots (no queue) or cheeries (a very long queue!). We wandered around looking at the flags that were all around the centre and our NFLE tendencies kicked in. After watching a few of them disappear, our instincts took over. Somehow we had a Dolphins flag when we got home. No idea how it got there…

Lou got on the stage and danced with Poe, one of the three Ravens mascots (Edgar and Allen couldn’t make it to Hawaii). She then went and got a Ravens tattoo done to show her loyalty. But don’t worry folks, it wasn’t real.

Lou's new look...

We spent the rest of the evening wandering around and watching the entertainment, until it was time to catch a bus back to Waikiki.

The evening eneded with fireworks over the water. Just like Boppard, really.

Saturday

We spent the daytime snorkelling and enjoying the sunshine, before heading to the Waikiki Shell for the Pro Bowl 25th Anniversary Concert. We found we had general admission tickets, which meant we were sitting on the grass at the back. The concert began with a band called Pap Doo Ron, who featured a former member of the Beach Boys. They played a mix of Beach Boys tunes as well as some other classics. During the set, we lay looking at the stars, which can be seen so much clearer than in Britain. They were followed by more cheerie performances. The AFC and NFC did one each, as well as a joint performance. Then it was the moment we’d been waiting for. We moved forward and found some empty seats (there were one or two free). Poor KC had been feeling unwell, and seemed to cough his guts up between songs, but he was a trooper and put on an excellent set. It sure beat watching a film on the beach. Just as the concert was finishing, the heavens opened. The local wussies ran for cover, but we kept saying "This isn’t rain!".
