Week 6 - Rhein @ Amsterdam

For Ian, Week 6 began with the usual train ride from Brussels to Amsterdam. He’d spoken to Lou the night before, who was at a Tom Jones concert and wasn’t going to be at the game. Or so he thought…

Lou arrived at Schiphol Airport at around 11am and bumped into a familiar face, Chantal, an old friend of Phil King. And at Centraal Station she ran into Dario & Yvonne from Rhein.

Lou headed for the first time this season into Teasers to find the Monarchs boys. She found Phil, who looked surprisingly well, having suffered a heart attack just a few weeks before. She did the rounds of hugs and kisses with the boys; Ross, Steve W, Tony Browne-Tony Browne, Brian, the Mayhews, David, Patrick, Richard, Bernie and Davey (email us if we’ve missed anyone). They were all sporting some new IATC Odd Squad T-shirts.

When Lou arrived at The Globe, she found Ian at the bar. When she asked for a pint, he stood staring at her in disbelief. She hadn’t told him she was coming, and he couldn’t believe she’d flown to Amsterdam.

We were not alone at the bar for long, as the Fire buses arrived and took over the sunny terrace. Two trips to Amsterdam and we’ve been able to sit on the terrace… this must be a record!

Ian headed over to Teasers to see the boys (well, that’s what he told Lou), while Lou enjoyed the sunshine. He returned in one of the aforementioned T-shirts. He paid €12 for it. Lou has known the boys a long time, and knew she wouldn’t have to pay that much for hers.

We headed off to the stadium for the game. We were in Block 121 this week, having been on the other side of the field in Week 2. It was a lot of fun, but sadly, the score-line didn’t go the Admirals’ way. During the game, Lou decided it was time to bag an IATC T-shirt. She headed off to see the boys and asked Phil what she had to do to get one. He said, “You need to do something you’ve never done with us before”. That didn’t leave a lot of options! In the end, Phil agreed to give her the T-shirt off his back, as long as she took off her shirt to put it on. So she did exactly that, much to the delight of the boys, and bagged herself a free T-shirt!

We don’t do reports. See the official line at NFLEurope.com.

After the game, we went back to The Globe, but Lou could barely keep her eyes open. She’d been up since 3.45am to catch the flight and needed to sleep!

On Sunday morning we left Velcro’s flat and headed to Schiphol again so Lou could get her flight home, and Ian took the train back to Brussels.

FINAL SCORE: Rhein Fire 34 - 27 Amsterdam Admirals

Next week…Lou will be at Rhein @ Scotland.

This week we're raising a beer to Velcro for letting us use his apartment so much. Cheers dude!
