Peace (of the Action?)
What does it mean to pray for the Shalom
(peace) of Jerusalem?
"Shalu Shalom Yerushalayim"
David the Psalmist wrote these words ~ Psalm 122. Let's
be clear about this; "peace" is not simply the
absence of war. Shalom is "wholeness, completeness,
healing, resting" related to Shillum
"reward" and Shalam "safe in body mind and
spirit... prospering...".
Hebrew words may have a variety of meanings, depending on
context or intonation. The primary meaning is to
enquire after and, by implication, then
to request. Look at these other meanings:
Find out, listen to, ask, seek counsel, beg, borrow,
consult, demand, earnestly enquire, greet, lend, request,
pray, require of.
When we pray for the Shalom of Jerusalem (the City of
Shalom) we need to ask about, enquire after, find out -
seek out the truth about the city. Imagine what it was
like in times of war - Jerusalem was a prime target for
Israel's enemies. The Jewish people would have focussed
their attention on Jerusalem - David's City. The enemy
would have sought to destroy Israel's seat of judgement,
and more importantly its place of spiritual authority.
For Israel all attention was on Jerusalem, the place of
spiritual authority - because the Anointed king was there
and the High Priest was there in the Tabernacle. It was
to the Temple at Jerusalem that G-d required every adult
male to go up to, three times a year, to bring
sacrifices, to pray and to worship.
Come along to Beit
Anya and we can listen and learn together.
Find out. Pray. Ask. Enquire of the L-rd. He knows it
all.

We believe in accordance with all
scripture from the Hebrew bible that G-d promised an
Anointed One - a Messiah - to save people from the
results of their own wrong-doing
We believe Y'shua came to fulfil the words of Law
(Torah), Psalms (Tehillim) and Prophets (ha'Nevi'im).
He is "the Way, the Truth and the Life".
Yochanan
(John) 14:6
May He Who makes peace in high places make peace for us
all and for all Israel,
and let us say, Amen.

Oseh Shalom bimromav, hu ya'aseh
Shalom, aleynu v'al kol Yisrael, v'imru Amen.
