The Ebor Players

The Ebor Players are here

or at least they will be by tomorrow lunchtime.

er, make that next Sunday lunchtime. But meanwhile,

Welcome to the Ebor Players Website

The Ebor Players is a happy band of players in Bishopthorpe, near York, dedicated to putting on the best pantomime in town (oh alright, village) every December. Membership is free.

Our merry troupe began life during a fairly well lubricated gathering at the Ebor Inn in Bishopthorpe Main Street one evening in October 1994. A few weeks later the 'Ebor Players' first Village Panto - "Alladin" - hit the stage, and was an instant hit. Since then we have staged "Cinderella" ('95), "Sleeping Beauty" ('96), "Mother Goose" ('97), "Babes in the Wood" ('98) and we had another sell-out - "Jack and the Bean Stalk" in December '99.

This year's offering is "Dick Whittington and his Cat" (a timely offering, although the cat should perhaps be a newt!).

We rehearse these epics from mid-September through to performances in early December. For the rest of the year we meet once a month, to chat things through, sort out niggles and keep the group 'ticking over'. The Ebor Players is a decidedly democratic group of like-minded folks. Everything is very open. Our 'meetings' are gatherings of as many as can come, held (of course) in the Ebor. The pub is our spiritual home.

Why not join us? We're a friendly bunch, and anyone who wants to join is welcome. You don't need any talent, just a sense of fun. If you're within striking distance, call the Secretary Phil Crowther on 01904 707853 and he'll tell you what we're up to and how to join in.
