This is an interview carried out by Robert Laird, Editor of “Boab’s little piece of Scotland” Website with Doug Gerry Season 2005/06 Predictions Joint Winner.
My names Doug Gerry and I’m 50 years old and have supported Dundee forever, at least it seems like that.
I now live in New Zealand and still keep in touch with the team by gluing myself to the Website to get the results, it’s part of my weekly routine of following Dundee, though when I was still in Dundee my preferred position of watching Dundee was from the Provie road end.
I get all my information on Dundee from the official Website.
I’m a widower with two grown up kids, but I have brought my son up to be a Dee, in fact during one of our trips home we were both at the Raith Rovers game which secured our Promotion back to the Premier league the last time.
Although I’ve Supported Dundee all my life I have never been affiliated to any particular Supporters Club. My wife did think I was half mad supporting the Dees from the other side of the World. I guess being away from Dundee for almost 30 years would have given her that impression as I immigrated when I was in my early twenties.
My most memorable experience following Dundee has to be when Gordon Wallace turned onto Bobby Wilson’s free kick to win the league Cup back in 1973.
Unfortunately my most forgettable experience is in the same competition at the same stage when we lost to the Arabs.
The most humorous moments I have from following Dundee are my memories of Big George Mclean scoring some amazing goals then go on to miss from one yard on a regular basis, having said that though my favourite player has to be the aforementioned Gordon Wallace with his goal scoring prowess.
If I was manager and was allowed to sign one player, given the opportunity I’d really have liked to have seen Zidane playing for Dundee. Lee Wilkie was my current favourite player but I can’t really say who it would be, now he has left from not really knowing much about the current team.
Last Season was a big disappointment and I never really thought I’d think it, but Dundee just doesn’t seem big enough for two Premier teams. It’s maybe time to amalgamate and start afresh with a new Stadium, either at Caird Park or Riverside.
I like taking part in fun things like the prediction quiz, though I really never set any points target, it was just nice to know I had won this time, but now I feel I can go on to hold my title, after all I only have Ed in the states and some other beginner to take care of.
