This is an interview carried out by Robert Laird, Editor of “Boab’s little piece of Scotland” Website with Iain Season 2005/06 Predictions Joint Winner.
I’m Iain Laird and I’m 49 years old. I’ve supported Dundee for over 40 of those years and left Dundee long before the seats were put in at Dens, moving to Germany then onto Canada eventually.
I never had a preferred area to watch Dundee play, in fact in those days we watched from behind the goals and walked behind the South enclosure to get to the other end at half-time. In fact in those days it took most of half time to get to the other ends because of the crowds.
I’m now a member of the North American Dundee Supporters Club, a group of like minded Dundee fans who now live in Canada and America. We like to feel we do our bit in keeping Dundee’s name going abroad.
I’m married with 4 daughters, which makes it difficult to get them interested in Football never mind Dundee, but I have managed to make them know that if they had to support a team it would be Dundee FC.
My wife has never really bothered the fact I like to follow Football and Dundee FC and I don’t get much opportunity to see them now. I used to meet up with a few of the other Dundee fans in the Toronto area and we’d go see them when their games were screened live by Setanta in either the Rangers, or Celtic Clubs. Since relegation even this avenue has been taken away from us. Having said that, I did manage to see one game last year against Brechin during one of my trips home. We won that one 1-0 after a dodgy penalty.
My set routines before a match used to be to get ready at my Computer and wait for the live commentary unfortunately that has stopped also since we were relegated.
My favourite memory in all the time of watching Dundee was the great comeback against Cologne at Dens, it was the best atmosphere I’d experienced both during and after a match.
I have had too many disappointments whilst following Dundee so I can no longer dwell on one in particular. I’m just glad they are blanked out now.
I used to get a laugh at some of the fans comments during the games when I was younger. My favourite players were Gordon Wallace and Eric Sinclair.
RL:-If you were the Dundee Manager who would you sign?
Due to our financial situation I don’t think I could sign who I would want.
RL:-Who’s your current favourite Dundee player?
Kevin MacDonald and Bobby Mann
RL:-What was the highlight of the season you’ve just experienced?
Avoiding relegation and being invited into the directors box to watch a game.
RL:-Do you believe we still have a future?
Definitely
RL:-How do you get most of your information about the club, is it from the News, the Official Website or the many unofficial Websites?
Mainly from the club website, but all sources you’ve mentioned.
RL:-How many points did you think you’d get before the season started last season?
I was hoping to finish in the top 10.
RL:-Do you think your Predictions this season will let you hold onto your title as Top Pundit?
I always pick Dundee to win the league, so I start with a handicap lol, but even so I managed to finish joint top last season so am hopeful again.
