An Interview With Scott McIntosh 14/07/03

This is an interview carried out by Robert Laird, Editor of 'Boab's little piece of Scotland”' Website with Scott McIntosh Season 2002/03 Predictions Winner.

RL:-Scott, what's your age?

SM:-Over 21.  I remember the last Scottish Cup Final, although I was not allowed to go, as I was too young.

RL:-How long have you been a Dundee fan?

SM:- All my life, which as you know is more than 21 years.

RL:-Do you have a preferred area at Dens you like to sit at?

SM:-South Enclosure, just left of centre line. I would go back to standing in a minute though.

RL:-Are you married?

SM:- Yes, and have a son and daughter

RL:-Have you brainwashed your kids to being Dee's also?

SM:- Yes, what a silly question.

RL:- Does your wife bother the fact you follow Dundee everywhere?

SM:- No, she only bothers if the Dees get beat. I wonder what she means.

RL:-You must spend a fortune watching Dundee has there ever been a time where you've thought is it worth it anymore?

SM:- Yes, many times, especially during  spells we spent going up and down, the famous last words were often mentioned. Ehm no goin back!!

RL:-Do you have a set routine before each game?

SM:- First to the bookies and then GJ's. Away games are dependant on how I'm getting there, but a few drinks will definitely be involved.

RL:-Do you go to the games with the same people each week?

SM:- I always attend with my son, and sometimes some of my mates will make the journey from the far corners to attend.

RL:-What's been your most memorable experience following Dundee apart from winning the Predictions Competition on this site?

SM:- That's a hard one. I think the Scottish Cup run in season 73-74 when we beat Aberdeen, Rangers and Hibs before losing 1-0 to Celtic in the Semi was a time I'll never forget, and to rival that the European games against Cologne and AC Milan at Dens during the 71-72 season, also the Fairs Cup games in '68 when we got to the Semi and lost to Leeds. Lastly winning the League Cup in 1973, what a day!!! There are many more, too many to mention.

RL:-What's been your most forgettable experience?

SM:- Relegation from the first Premier League season. I think only now, have we recovered from then.

RL:-What's been your most humorous experience whilst following the Dee?

SM:- United getting relegated, had me laughing for weeks. There have been many other funny moments, like the time Claudio signed, the Daily Record had a picture of Claudio and 2 slightly larger girthed guys with wigs, my son proceeded to ask, 'Which one's Caniggia?' Yes we were rolling about laughing.

RL:-Who's been your favourite player to wear the Dark Blue in all your time as a Dundee fan?

SM:- Charlie Cook , although he was only there for a couple of years, he was a truly gifted player. Also Claudio, he's probably the best player to play that I've seen. I only wish I'd saw this guy called Billy Steel, he was meant to be NO BAD!!!

RL:-If you were the Dundee Manager who would you sign?

SM:- At this moment Lee Miller of Falkirk, he showed against us, that he's got what it takes to make it big in the game.  If money was no object, I think I would sign Ronaldo, Henry, Zidane, Figo, etc.; I would then take Barry Ferguson from Rangers for a paltry £50,000, under freedom of contract.

RL:-Who's your current favourite Dundee player?

SM:- Fab Cab. He's back to the way he was before that horrific injury against them, in fact I'd go as far to say he's now playing better.

RL:-What was the highlight of the season you've just experienced?

SM:- The Cup Final, to go so close, and what a fantastic support. With the team remaining almost intact apart from Zura, I can't see why we'll not be back on many more occasions!!

RL:-Are you happy at the direction the team, seem to be going?

SM:- Yes. I congratulate Jim on how he's got the team playing, there seems to be a togetherness in the side, last year if Fabian scored it was barely acknowledged by the team, now when anybody scores he's mobbed by the other players and there's happy smiles and high fives all round.

RL:-How do you get most of your information about the club, is it from the News, the Official Website or the many unofficial Websites?

SM:- From all these you've mentioned, and also the rumour mill.

RL:-How many points did you think you'd get before the season started last season?

SM:- I was really only confident about Rangers winning Celtic 2nd and Motherwell bottom, although for a time it looked good for United to get that position.

RL:-Do you think your Predictions this season will let you hold onto your title as Top Pundit?

SM:- Naturally.

RL:- Will you be going to any of the UEFA Cup matches Abroad?

SM:- I was so looking forward to going to Europe.but Albania!! I've got to hope that we'll win and get a favourable draw in the next round. Suffice to say, that provided we don't get a trouble spot, I and a host of Dundee supporters will be there!!!!!

RL:- I hope this open informal interview has helped give Dundee fans some insight into the normal views of the average Dundee fan.
