Original Federal Shelter Half ; it had an ingenious arrangement of buttons and buttonholes on three sides to allow it to be attached to other shelters. It had three sets of two handsewn grommets arranged along the bottom edge with rope loops through them so that the half could be pegged down. This was the most widely used form of tentage by the Union Army during the Civil War.
