Many friends of Mr. Ernest G. C. Chaundy, 27, Abbey Road, will regret to hear of his death, which took place yesterday. Mr. Chaundy was a well-known figure, and his profession as a photographer and his various hobbies took him to many places. As a member of the staff of Messrs. Gillman, Mr. Chaundy has photographed many members of Royalty, including King Edward, the King and Queen, and Princess Mary, and one of his treasured photographs was a portrait of the Prince of Wales which the Prince autographed while at Magdalen College. Mr. Chaundy was a keen horticulturist and amateur gardener, and for nearly 30 years was secretary of the Osney, St. Thomas's, and New Botley Allotment Association. In the culture of roses and violas he was considered something of an authority, and he was a successful exhibitor at the Royal Horticultural Society's shows and at the West Oxford shows. Last November the members of the City Council Allotment Committee, on which he was one of the co-opted members, representing the Oxford and District Federation of Allotment Societies, broke a precedent and elected him vice-chairman of the committee, an honour which he, and allotment holders in the district generally, highly appreciated. In politics he was a Conservative, and particularly in the West Ward had been a very active worker and his services will be greatly missed by the party. The late Mr. Chaundy was a keen musician, and as organist had played in many parish churches round Oxford. He was a member of one of the original dance bands which played at college balls. His brother, Mr. T. W. Chaundy, was lately Junior Proctor, and is a Fellow of Christ Church. Mr. Chaundy was 62 years of age, and is survived by a widow, three daughters, and one son. The funeral will take place at Old Botley on Monday.
