1873 Star 8 December 1873
Newspaper Cutting LARCENY. - Flora Chaunday [sic] was brought
up, charged with having stolen two tea cups,
the property of Jemima Merrin. The cups
were found in the prisoner's possession when
arrested, and identified by the prosecutrix as
her property. Prisoner was remanded until
Tuesday, in order that enquiries might be made
into her general character.

1873 Star 9 December 1873
Newspaper Cutting LARCENY. - Flora Chaundy, on remand for
having stolen two teacups, was again brought
up. Sergeant Willis said the police had not
obtained any further information about pri-
soner, except that she had been driking for
some time, and that her husband was working
at Oxford. His Worship said there could be
no doubt that the larceny had arisen from
drink, and it was also to be regretted that
prisoner's husband has lost one situation by
trying to look after her. Prisoner would be
sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment,
with hard labour, but, if again brought up,
she would be dealt with severely as a vagrant.

1875 Star 22 December 1875
Newspaper Cutting LARCENY. - Flora Mary Chaundy was
brought on a charge of this nature. From
the evidence it appeared that the prisoner stopped
at the Wellington Hotel on Thursday last,
and after she had left two blankets were
missed. Subsequently prisoner sold one of
the blankets to Mr H. Davis, High street, for
4s, and the other to Mr Stewart, Lichfield
street. Mrs Fuchs positively identified the
blankets as her property. Prisoner said she
did not take the blankets with the intention
of stealing them. Prisoner was sentenced to
seven days' imprisonment with hard labour.

1876 Star 10 January 1876
Newspaper Cutting LARCENY OF AN ALBUM. - Mary Flora
Chaundy, an elderly woman, was charged with
having stolen an album, valued at 12s, the
property of Wm. Henry Lutton, Papanui. It
appeared that on Nov. 27 prisoner slept at
prosecutor's, and after she had gone the album
was missed. Subsequently the album was
found at Stewart's pawn shop, where prisoner
had pawned it for 2s. Mrs Lutton said she
had known prisoner for a long time, and never
knew anything bad of her before this, and she
hoped the Bench would deal leniently with
her. Prisoner, in defence, said the album was
given to her by Mrs Lutton. His Worship
said prisoner appeared to have a weak-
ness in the direction of theft. There was a
previous conviction against her, and she would
be sentenced to one month's imprisonment,
with hard labour.
