Robert Allen "Gupps" Chaundy Sr (1941-2007)

SHAMOKIN -- Robert A. "Gupps" Chaundy, Sr., 65, of 920 East Sunbury Street, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ at 4:37 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He had been in ill health the past two weeks.

Bob was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Shamokin, a son of the late Harry and Katie (Whery) Chaundy. He was united in marriage on April 9, 1960 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Shamokin, to the former Judy Orme, who survives.

He was a 1959 graduate of the Coal Township High School.

Gupps was employed by Weis Markets for 18 years and became the produce manager. After his employment with Weis, he became the owner and operator of his own grocery store, Ashland Food-Rite. He was also the meat cutter at the store.

Bob was of the Christian faith, and a member of Harvest Worship Ministries, West Cameron Township.

Bob's enjoyment was his family. He loved to spend time with his family camping, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed hunting with his son, brothers and friends. He loved to dance and had quite a step! Gupps and Judy did the jitterbug like pros. He especially took pleasure in playing games and cards with his granddaughter, Brea, and was always ready to be on the floor playing with great-grandchildren, Leea and Tate. He was an avid coin collector. Bob loved to attend church and worship, and sing praises to the Lord.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Robert Scandle of Shamokin; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Barb Chaundy of Coal Township; two granddaughters, Kelly and her husband Jeremy Haines of Shamokin, and Brea Scandle of Shamokin; two great-grandchildren, Leea Wolfe and Tate Haines, both of Shamokin; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Barb Chaundy of Mifflinburg, and Dennis and Bernadette Chaundy of Stonington; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Robert Hauck of Tharptown, Dorris and Jim Tyler of Tharptown, and Shirley and Jim Shumberger of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven, and a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Adrian Heim.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 West Arch Street at Maple Street, Coal Township, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 with Pastor Don Trotz, of Harvest Worship Ministries, officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
