ACCIDENT. - An accident which might have ter- minated seriously happened near Mr. Philip Davis' farm on Monday afternoon to a nursey cart, which was being driven from Mr. Chaundy's Wootton Downs' farm to Combe. The occupants consisted of a groom, who was driving, and two nurses, with Mr. Chaundy's two children. They met a cart laden with heavy stones nearly opposite Mr. Davis' farm, and according to the groom's statement, when he pulled out to pass this cart, the horse he was driving swerved, the result being that the convey- ances collided, and the wheel of the nursey cart got locked with the wheel of the other cart, causing the nurse who was holding one of the child- ren to be pitched out, together with the groom. They fortunately escaped with a severe shaking and a few scratches. The horse was trotting sharply at the time and the collision caused the hooks to which the traces were attached to draw out of the nursery cart, which let the horse loose, and he galloped on in the direction of the village, but was fortunately stopped without doing or receiving any injury. Assistance was rendered by Mr. Davis, who kindly lent a trap for their return home, the nursery cart having a spring broken and the front part badly damaged. | |
