Birmingham Open Championship
I dont know, Nevs reports are like the
buses! You dont see any for ages then two come at once! Here the
Northern Steam editor brings us coverage of Birminghams annual Open
which sounded a pretty lively night by domestic standards. Cheers
marra, keep em coming!
A dead on the nose 50 cars cluttered the Birmingham pits on Sat May 8th
for this years Birmingham Open Championship which was also World
Qualifier round 2. A handfull of visitors
from Buxton, Standlake, TSR and Barrow
helped swell the entry which was, as usual, formula Donald. 302 Billy
Kerry deviated with an Auto MK4, add a handfull of usual FWD, including a late shape Praire for 83 Lost It stuff and it was game-on.
Got to give credit here to Buxton boy's 34 Ernie & 134 Gav Smith who's Bluebird & Capri were
superbly turned out by the boy's.
It was Ernie who kicked off heat 1 when he
ran 119 Kenny Savage’s MK3 Cav in well. 94
Guv buried 134 Gav into Kerry’s Tina, the Standlake
man unfortunately
taking the impact in the drivers door but he seemed okay. Gav paid for it however when 38 Al Boy gave his
Capri a stiff shot moments later, 777 Luffy
walled 266 Big Al but the Barra points
King took his assailant to the wall seconds later which saw an end to
the 777 car for the night. 801 Jack Foster had both 272 Gazza & 104 Mick Siddalls
out, 122 Turk removed Lost It as Trackstar
action man 400 Shinny ran 176 The Doctor in. Guv
walloped the wall with some force before 430 Shaun Abra
won, Turk seeing the race out by spinning 393 Yugo.
With an all in format, 40 came out for heat
2. 80 Matty spun early doors
and was clipped by Big Al & 669 Trotter. 127 Challo
followed the ‘Lakes 809 Jedi in while Shinny buried Yugo into The Doctor in a neat move, Big Al
having Shinny out for his troubles. Al also had 71 Jenny Holiday out with Turk doing
similar to Ernie. 461 Elvis (Riva) walled Guv
before 384 Goldie mistakenly met 37 Fizz head-on coming off turn 3. It
was Shinny who gave the 8 meeting 384 Donald the big shot which not
only lifted the roof & wrote it off but it also knocked Goldie out
for a few minutes. Abra won
this one as well as in the pits after the race, Goldie shook Shinny’s hand and proceed to talk about the
curry he was going to have on his way home!.
37 for the
final with the DD after it, 262 Buster starting things by giving 129
Shane Davies’ Capri
a jacking well before the green flag and then 96 Wayne Davies’ Capri a
stiff t-bone well after the green flag before the Wreckers/262 feud
continued on the centre. Big Al wound Trotter out before Abra walled him well and moved into 3 rd place.
One lap later and Abra was in first as he
went past Siddall’s & 222 Matt Logan
in one move and he duly took another win as the race was halted early
when Shinny followed 165 Curbo hard into
the pits gate. This brought the reds out as Curbo
was in a bit of trouble but was later okay, Shinny did a couple of ribs
in in the impact but the real damage
was done to the pits gate, it were SCCCRAP!. 10ish for the DD and 118 Jason Anslow went on and met Shinny head-on
before Lost It ran the oppoTrackstar man into the Curbo wreck. 75 The Menace put 224 Graham
Gamble up the banking and then met 96 Davies on the nose, Elvis also
joining in with a shot on the 96 car. Menaace, Lost It and Elvis all then pounded the
96 car into submission, leaving it well snapped. Lost It & Gazza then set about Elvis who finished the Praire with a t-bone before the veteran, Gazza, finished the 461 Lada to clinch the
win.
