David has been pursuing music since the young age of nine. Growing up in Parkersburg, WV and being apart of a large musical family with 6 brothers and sisters provided the necessary encouragement to diligently prepare and pursue excellence with his music. His uncle, however, was his main inspiration in wishing to take up the flugal horn and trumpet. From there, David was immediately placed in private lessons for his parents quickly realized his ability was staggering for such a young age of only nine. "I think the idea of melody is what I was attracted to…" David says. Then, just four years later, David was ready to begin his career as an instrumental soloist. At the mere age of thirteen, David recorded his first album with singer and former Miss America Debbie Davis and was also frequently performing in front of live audiences. This was only the beginning, however, as David soon went on to expand his musical abilities to even greater extremes. During his later years of professional training, David was blessed to study at two of the nation's top musically prestigious schools. First, David attended Christ for the Nations Bible School in Dallas, TX and then onto Oral Roberts University. Shortly thereafter, David then began to partake in other projects alongside. His music pathway then included playing In Living Praise, a traveling worship ministry of Christ for the Nations, special solos for the Oral Roberts University TV ministry, and a large array of other events. Yet, David wished to do more. David wished to follow a dream from his heart. David was always drawn to follow his boy-hood idols of Herb Albert and Louis Armstrong. David also admired the abilities that Jim Brickman, John Tesh, and Yanni have in reaching people of all sorts with their music. As a result, David practiced constantly during his college years in order to become an instrumental soloist who can share his interpretations of reality with the rest of the world. David also listened to the instrumental records that have been around in recent years and compared favorably to them. In fact, David, not unlike many other true musicians, had an honest statement to make about the world around us through his music. He then booked studio recording time and laid down tracks of mostly original melodies and a few other great covers. From there, David then began to implement a unique marketing strategy personally in order to share his music with the world. "I listened to radio stations and realized that the superstars they play - people like Whitney Houston and Rod Stewart - weren't going into all these stations for visits. So I went! Back then it was a new approach - free station concerts, interviews, and listener appreciation shows. I was basically marketing myself. I wanted to be an artist they could own. At first, it was hard to get in there and really do something so different. Most radio stations have no instrumental music policies at all! But, eventually, I slowly built up my touring business," comments David. In retrospect, his actions were tedious. As a result, they were brilliant. He now has many radio stations of various genres throughout many states playing his music while being invited to attend multitudes of conferences, special events, fund drives, concerts, and more. Yet, even though David is a very busy person these days, he still has time to be with his wife, Angie, and his two children in Vienna, West Virginia. There he lives a healthy life and ministers weekly at his local church, Valley Harvest Church in Marietta, Ohio. Nevertheless, David still wishes to tap into more musically creative ideas and inspirations. We all certainly look forward to them! |
