OVERVIEW
The Sims is a new game from maxis, it is a life simulator which lets you control little people called Sims. The creator of this game is Will Wright who also created Sim City. There are 3 main parts to the game they are build, buy and LIVE. In the build mode you can build the house of your dreams or add an a swimming pool to your garden. In buy there is a wide selection of objects to purchase, from a grandfather clock or a bran new cooker. The last mode is live and this is what the game is made for. This is where you take control of your Sims in there daily life. You can make them into anyone you like whether it be a successful mastermind or a dirty slob its all up to you.
BUILD MODE
This is the mode where you create the house of your dreams. If you want to add an extension to your house then all you do is click on build mode and go into wall and drag your self a new extension. There are several options in build mode for you to be creative with they are terrain, water, wall & fence, wallpaper, stair, fireplace, plant, floor, door, window and roof tool. Each of these sections has different options inside them. Look at the list below.
Terrain tool: lower terrain, level terrain, raise terrain
Water tool: pool tool, diving board, ladder tool
Wall & Fence: wall tool, white picket fence, balustrade, privacy fence, column tool
Wallpaper tool: There are many types of wallpaper to put on your walls.
Stair tool: Pick from 4 different stair to take you Sims to the second floor.
Fireplace tool: There are 4 fireplaces to choose from.
Plant tool: Pick from a range of plants to put into your garden from tulips to apple trees.
Floor tool: You can choose from a wide range of floor tiles for your Sims to walk on.
Door tool: Choose from the plain door to the glass framed its all there for you.
Window tool: Light up your rooms with these range of brilliant windows.
Roof tool: What would your house be without a roof, very wet and cold.
As you can see there are many things to add to your property so get building.
BUY MODE
In buy mode you can furnish your house with other 150 items. You can buy lots of different items for your house from a cooker to a snooker table. Each item is worth a certain amount of money, the more expensive the better. The price of items goes down as you use them so say if you brought a cooker for a $1000 after about 7 uses it will go down about $5. It is important to buy the main things that you will need in life like a toilette. You will be able to buy these at the start of the game with the money you start off with. At first you will not be able to buy the luxurious items so you have to start off cheap. As you get a job with better pay and the cash starts rolling in you will then be able to upgrade your existing items. All the really nice items are alot of money from about $1000 to $12000. The high life is an expensive one so spend wisely and don't go over the top on your spending sprees.
LIVE MODE
This is the big one LIVE mode. This is where the game shows what it is made of. You take control of your Sim/s in there daily life controlling there every move. Make them in to a rich mastermind or a criminal slob. You have to keep your Sim/s happy, You can see how happy or sad he is on the control panel under MOOD. There are bars for everything from how much he needs the toilet to how much fun he is having. To keep your Sim/s happy you must keep these bars full.Heres how to keep the bars full:
Hunger: Eat
Comfort: Sit down/sleep
hygiene: Take a shower/bath
Bladder: Use the toilette
Energy: Drink coffee/sleep
Fun: Watch TV/play snooker etc
Social: Interact with other Sims
Room: Have a clean house/big rooms/windows
If you can keep those bars up your Sims will be very happy. Your Sim/s will have to get money for food etc so you will have to get a job, there are 2 ways you can get a job 1.look in the daily newspaper 2.search on a computer (computer has 3 jobs a day). Once you have a job there will be a car sent to pick you up at a certain time which you can find on the control panel under JOB. In The Sims there are no weekend so you have to go to work everyday although you can miss one day off with a warning but if you miss two days off your fired. If you want to get a promotion in your job you may need 2 things 1.family friends 2.skills. Friends can be gained by having a relationship score with a Sim being over 50. Skills can be gained by doing different interactions with objects e.g. charisma points can be gained by practicing speech in a mirror. If you have all the necessary friends and skills and are in a good mood you will be promoted to the next stage in your job and will then again have to improve your skills etc. In the long run you may want to get married, have kids and so on. This can only be done by either starting off with a family or choosing a partner who you particularly like and then improving your friendship score to 100 and then going for the big one asking her to marry you or if its a man to move in. If they reject they will give you a reason why but if they accept you will now have a new wife/housemate. You will now control the Sim as well as the Sim you already had. If you would like a child you can either wait for a phone call from the adoption service or you can do some romantic interactions with your female partner until she ask if you should have a baby. You must look after the baby for 3 days before it turns into a child. You will need to make sure the baby is well fed and has enough sleep or a social worker will be round to take the baby away. Once the baby has turned into a child you will then take control of the child like you would a adult Sim. Sadly the child does not grow into an adult so there will be no farewell parties. The child doesn't stay at home all day either it has to go to school where it must improve its grade, if the grade drops below F your child will be taken away to boot camp and will never be seen again. There is still a lot for you to do with your Sim so make sure you take care of them and don't let them DIE.
