The technique used here is the same as that used at Digital Desyns for the Brandy Snifter tut, thanks Cindy for letting me use the same technique :o) Please take the time to visit :o)

1. Open a new image 500x500 with a transparent background. I prefer to use a big work area, we can resize later :o) Go to file and save as, name it what you will :o)

2. First of all we are going to make some shapes that will make the terrarium, these will be used as a stencil for the cutout effect later. Make a new raster layer naming it bowl. With the preset shape tool set to ellipse, line width 0, antialias checked, foreground and background set to white, draw out your shape starting at 30,160 and pull out to 470x480, you will see these figures at the bottom left hand corner of the PSP screen, the first set of figures is where you start and the second set is the finishing coordinate and the third is the overall size, don't ask me what the last figure is :o) To get the correct shaping you need to concentrate on the first and second set of numbers, ignore the others.

3. Create a new layer naming it base, with the preset shape tool draw another ellipse starting at 126x436 and dragging out to 374x464. We now need to select the shape and delete it from the bowl we made to flatten bottom. Staying on the base layer, Selections/Select all, Selections/Float, Selections/Invert. In the layer palette click on the bowl layer to make active, get the eraser tool and erase below the selection. Selections/Select none.

4. Create a new layer naming it rim, use the preset shapes tool turn off the background colour and foreground white, we are going to make the rim and don't want this shape filled, change the line width to 8, starting at 140x142 draw out the ellipse to 360x182.

5. With the magic wand, tolerance and feather 0, click inside the rim, Selections/Modify/Expand by 2, create a new layer naming it rim inner and flood fill with white. Selections/select none.

6. Create a new layer naming it neck, use the preset shapes tool set to rectangle, width 0, background and foreground white, start at 140x162 drag the rectangle to 360x186. By clicking on the glasses in the layer palette make layers 1, base, rim and rim inner invisible. Layers/merge/merge visible. Layers/view/all.

7. In the layer palette click the rim layer to make active. With the magic wand click the outer area of the rim, Selections/Modify/Expand by 1,Selections/Invert. Now click on your merged layer to make active and hit delete. Because of the other layers it will look as though you haven't actually done anything so if you go to the layer palette and right click your merged layer choose view/current only from the pop up menu, you will be able to see what you have done, don't forget to turn all the layers back to visibilty. Selections/select none

8. OK, we now have the shapes we need to make the cutout effects for the terrarium. In the layer palette click the merged layer and drag it down below the the rim layer.

Effects/3D effects/cutout and use these settings vertical 8, horizontal 4, Opacity 90, Blur 80, shadow colour white. In the layer palette, right click the merged layer and duplicate. By clicking the glasses in the layer palette make layers 1, base, rim & rim inner invisible, now merge visible. Effects/3D effects/Inner bevel at these settings -

9. In the layer palette click the base layer to make active, effects/3D effects/Cutout at these settings, vertical 4, horizontal4, opacity 90, blur 16.3, shadow colour white. Effects/3D effects/Inner bevel at these settings  -

Bring the opacity of the base layer down to 60.

10. In the layer palette drag the rim inner layer down below the rim layer.

Staying on the rim inner layer, Effects/3D effects/cutout at the previous settings. In the layer palette right click the rim layer and duplicate, now work on the duplicated layer. Effects/3D effects/cutout at these settings, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 90, blur 10, shadow colour white. Effects/3Deffects/Inner bevel at these settings -

In the layer palette bring the opacity of the rim layer down to about 60.

There you have your terrarium, it may be best to save in PSP format to keep the layers then you can fill it with plants or whatever making sure this is done over the base layer.
