![]() ARCADIA“The best news is that the two most touching and complex roles, Thomasine (Lucy Wyhbrow) and her young tutor, Septimus (Edward Atterton) are very well played by talented young actors....Edward Atterton has the smoldering intensity of the young Romantic’s mind and emotion.” The quote above is from the May 26, 1994 London Financial Times - one of the glowing
reviews of Edward’s performance as Septimus, in Tom Stoppard’s play Arcadia. It was
directed by Trevor Nunn. You can read the
reviews in their entirety, and see cast information on the review page - also see this page, and if you’re interested
to find out more about this complex, fascinating play, here’s an excellent site to read
more about it.
The production ran well over 250 performances at the historic Theatre Royal Haymarket
in London. (Oscar Wilde, my literary hero, premiered his A Woman of No Importance here in 1893,
followed by An Ideal Husband). And amazingly enough, if you’re determined to see
Edward in this play, you still can! The National Video Archive at the Theatre Museum in London, has a recording of the
performance. |
![]() LES MISERABLESUnfortunately I have not been able to find out much about this production, except that it was an adaptation by Christina Reid. Edward played Marius, and it was staged at the Nottingham Playhouse. |
