Welcome to the Tracing Horses Section
Have you ever wondered how you can find out the history of your new horse?
Or whatever happened to a horse you once owned?
There are various ways of going about it but how successful can it be, can you really find out what your horses history is or where he is now??
If your horse is registered with a breed society providing the previous or present owners have transferred ownership then contacting them should not be too much of a problem.
If the horse is freeze marked or tattooed and again registration is kept up to date then you can find out the information.
But what happens if the horses registration is not up to date or the papers have been lost how do we find out then?
Then begins the needle in a haystack search!!!
Trying to find out the information then becomes hard, especially if the horse has not been registered anywhere.
Get photo's of the horse as it was when you first purchased it or last sold it and put them in as many Equestrian Magazines as you can, most magazines do not charge for this service. Include details such age, height colour, description, any vices, and habits your horse may have.
Make a note of any distinguishing marks which you horse may have, scars, markings, and brand marks (found more on warmbloods), freeze marks.
Try contacting any affiliated clubs to see if they have any information about your horse.
Such as BSJA, British Dressage, Endurance, BHTA, and if it is or has been registered with any of the above.
You can now advertise online too free of charge!! Equiriders has a message board dedicated to Tracing Horses and it now has teamed up with new site Tracing Horses.co.uk who are sharing our board so any messages posted on our board will now be shown on both sites automatically. Our message board has got facilities to post pictures and even Voice messages.
On a final note Never give up! You will come across many dead ends in your search but there will be someone out there that will recognise your horse eventually.
