News from Nigel (compiler and note-writer!!)

"Thought you would like to know the detailed track by track notes are progressing well and I think even long-standing fans will be quite surprised at some of the information turning up. Every track has information about alternative Fairport versions, source versions and interesting covers by other artists. The Fairport recording is discussed in each case, as is the historical and contextual background to each song. There are trivia notes for all songs where you'll find fascinating and unusual detail. Sidebars include such things as set lists for source recordings, lists of related recordings, Fairport's diary. For the first time with a Free Reed (and maybe any) release, the track note section is heavily illustrated with relevant images for each song - the majority of which are previously not widely available.

Thanks to all who have sent questions and suggestions - especially all those who responded so quickly after the draft track list was made available. We are of course working closely with members of Fairport past and present and as the tracks are digitised we will be meeting up to confirm final approval of all material."  There's a Fairport Rarity on Free Reed's 1st Feb release " This Label is NOT removable" - This 3-CD/80-Page book set is a 61-track celebration of 25 years of the Free Reed label - and includes, thanks to Dave Pegg and the band, a superb unreleased Fairport Track, the 1992York Concert version of 'Hiring Fair' - over 7 minutes!!
