When Batty Met Sputty
Sputnik badge
In mid-2003 the Batmobile was invited to take part in the USSR-themed display in front of the "Drivers' Mess" in that year's Goodwood Reunion meeting. The centrepiece was a Sputnik which had apparently suffered a malfunction or tracking-error and quite by chance come to Earth adjacent to the Goodwood airstrip. Official Soviet vehicles had hurried to seal off the area from decadent Capitalist eyes whilst a recovery was effected. It sez here.

The Chaika was accompanied by: a brilliant re-creation of Sputnik which periodically issued forth smoke; a huge Antonov plane; a couple of GAZ-69s and a Ural motorcycle combination (actually it was on Wehrmacht plates and so was most likely a WW2 BMW, but no-one seemd to care). An enthusiastic group of drama-students from Chichester created diversions as a credible Keystone KGB, whilst Your Scribe paced around menacingly, asking to see people's papers. All a bit of a hoot, really. And it is an immense honour to have been asked to participate in this fantastic weekend of Theatre.

But enough waffle; let's see a few pictures...
