GARAS is a charitable company, with its object to relieve
sickness, poverty and distress in Gloucestershire, with
the particular aim of promoting the welfare of refugees
and asylum seekers.
In practice this has two strands: |
The drop-in centre,
which offers: |
A 'safe space': activities, refreshments, relationships. |
Information, advocacy & advice on health, housing,
benefits, immigration, law, education, career. |
Access to other agencies, e.g. Red Cross family
tracing, Gloscat English courses, careers guidance,
health visitor, CAB. |
Food, clothing, toys (for urgent needs), furniture,
household items & bedding. |
In addition, GARAS
seeks to: |
Negotiate access to services at a strategic level. |
Liaise with other agencies in Gloucester/shire
who encounter asylum seekers and refugees. |
Raise awareness about the situation of asylum
seekers and refugees in Gloucester/shire. |
