BRISTOL HYPNOTHERAPY CLINIC

Other than the treatment of depression and the neuroses already mentioned, there are many other conditions that clinical hypnotherapy / psychoanalysis can be extremely helpful.

Medical hypnosis covers a large field of problems. Hypertension can be reduced, also pain, discomfort and nausea. Fear of medical procedures from minor fears of injections to fear of major surgery can be relieved, because of this, research shows the patient heals more quickly. Burns patients can have their dressings changed with little or no analgesia, this is especially useful for those who are either allergic to some medications, or are unable to tolerate them. Surgery can even be performed without any anaesthesia. With these problems I work very closely with the doctor involved. It has been proved in the USA over a thirty year period, that by preparing patients hypnotically and psychologically, outcomes to surgical procedures has improved and costs reduced. Patients undergoing radiological procedures may be fearful and anxious. Patients have been known to refuse a CT or MRI scan because of the claustrophobic effect, being alone or the loud noises of the machinery. There is then an inability to provide the necessary data which can prove detrimental to the patient, and the high cost of scanning time. Providing effective cognitive, emotional and psychological parameters prior to surgical intervention significantly reduces stress, fear, anxiety, physical trauma, pain, pyrexia, hypothermia, malnutrition and drug therapy.

Chronic pain especially in cancer can be substantially reduced in 70% of sufferers. A deep hypnotic state is required for this to be effective. By using relaxing techniques, depressive, anxious / negative thoughts and feelings, even nausea can be alleviated. This can allow the patient to reduce their analgesics along with any unwanted side effects. By reducing anxiety, depression and fear, pain will be easier to tolerate, allowing a better quality of life on a day to day basic.

Dental hypnosis can relieve problems with fear and anxiety, bruxism, and gagging. Clinical hypnosis creates a beneficial outcome to nearly all dental fears.

Phobias which are a symbolic outward expression of an internal anxiety. The person with a phobia is afraid of a nameless, timeless, formless something inside themselves, but outside their control. Should that person avoid his / her phobic situation or object, and still experience anxiety, then this process of symbolism will increase his / her phobias, adding more until it becomes difficult to avoid each phobic situation.

Psychosomatic response may be experienced in any system of the body. By finding the cause and treating this, and the focus of the symptoms, will provide an excellent outcome.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome responds particularly well to hypnotherapy, reducing pain, bloating and diarrhoea. Many other symptoms can be brought under control. A high proportion of gastroenterologists find how significant this therapy is. ( I am on the UK Register of IBS Therapists ).
