Paddy's Poem

I start driving these lads here back in 1989,
Davy was made redundant from his factory,
and Kenny Dalglish was in his prime,
the pint was so much cheaper then,
and the sterling very healthy,
before Gazza went to Lazio,
and David Mellor played for Chelsea.

She broke my heart that's what she said,
You got me on the run alright,
But i used to lover ina red cortina
but it won't be tonight...

Back then we were touring with the Waterboys,
to the road like crusties we were smitten,
Down every boring motorway in Thatchers stricken Britain,
We've travelled across the Irish Sea,
the Severn and the Clyde,
We passed by Paddy's Wigwam,
on the way to Merseyside.

My name is Paddy and I'm their driver,
strong and safe behind the wheel,
I can skin up going round roundabouts,
and through red lights I can steal,
We start life in a camper van,
like sardines we were stuck,
and now we have two sleeper buses,
and an articulated truck.

This poem it has no ending,
like the road we're travelling on,
I'll step aside right now,
and let this show go on...
