The Beltane Fire Society is a charitable organisation, it exists to organise the Beltane Fire Festival which happens each year in Edinburgh, it is also an important hub for a large number of groups and individuals, who as well as contributing to the overall Beltane project also work within their local communities and internationally to promote the wealth of arts and culture that Beltane represents.
We are only able to continue in our activities with the assistance of cultural grants, fund-raising benefit events and the generosity of all those people who support us with their time, energy and enthusiasm. No-one is paid for their work in this project, yet a core of dedicated people give a large amount of their time to ensure that all the behind-the-scenes administration and preparations are carried out so that the Fire Festival can entertain the many thousands of onlookers for another year.
Participation in Fire Society projects is open to anyone, provided they can make it to Edinburgh for rehearsals. We hold open meetings before each of our major productions and welcome anyone who wants to get involved, details of these can be found in Parts to Play. This website represents the hardwork and enthusiasm of a great many people, who over the last ten years have brought alive the spirit of an important aspect of our culture. Hopefully it will plant seeds in the imagination of others, please contact us to get involved, offer support or just to say hello!
Over the past few years, encouraged by growing support for its aims and working methods, the Society has begun to celebrate all four of the Quarter festival. We have also began to widen the scope of our activities and hopefully both within our community and internationally:
