Rules
of Gaelic Football
To carry the ball further than a distance of four steps, the skill of soloing the ball is used. Soloing involves alternating between bouncing the ball and kicking the ball from toe to hand. Players may pass the ball by kicking or "fisting" it. The goalposts are similar to those in rugby and scores come in two forms - goals and points. Points are more common and are scored when a team manages to kick, fist or palm the ball, over the opposing crossbar, and between the posts. Goals are worth three points, and are scored when a team kick or palm the ball, under the crossbar, and between the posts. A player shall not throw the ball - a hand/fist pass is necessary. TECHNICAL/TACKLING RULES
The ball may be knocked from an opponent's hand by flicking it with the open hand. A player holding the ball into her body cannot be legally dispossessed. Any attempt to do so will result in a free for her and her team. A player may change the ball from one hand to the other once, providing the original holding hand maintains contact with the ball until the change is completed. A player shall not kick the ball as an opponent is about to pick it up or take it into her possession. The ball shall not be held longer than it is necessary to kick, fist/hand pass, solo it or move four steps. All deliberate bodily contact shall be eliminated but (a) Shadowing an opponent (b) Fielding (c) Blocking the delivery of a ball by an opponent shall be allowed. SCORES
Should the defender play the ball in any manner through her own scoring space it shall count as a score. When the ball hits the uprights or crossbar and rebounds back onto the field of play, it is still in play. Any player who falls or is knocked to the ground while in possession of the ball may fist or palm the ball away on the ground and may score by doing so.
