The Houses were named after four features of Aston; Aston Brook, Aston Hall, Aston Manor and Aston Park. On the first day at Holte we were rounded up in the main hall and allocated the Houses to which we were to belong by the House Masters.
HALL House, whose colour was Red, was expected to win the Swimming Gala held annually at Woodcock Street swimming baths. Thompson drilled that into us time and again. The Gala was always an entertaining event where stylised "dives" turned into "Belly flops" and the would be Mark Spitz of the 1st year struck out diagonally across the pool in a frantic crawl come butterfly. The high diving board tested the courage of many a competitor.
Brook won the House Championships in 1967 and 1968 when David Davies and David Collins were House Captains respectively. Christine Welch was the girls House Captain in 1968.
(Grateful thanks to Molly Ward for the House Master's names, Brook and Park !).
