Rules and Conditions of Entry

  1. Entries must be in English, original, not published in any form or broadcast, and no longer than 2000 words
  2. Entries should be sent to: L & DW Short Story Competition, 133, Park Road, Barton-under-Needwood, Burton-on-Trent, Staffs DE13 8DD to arrive no later than last post on 30th. November 2008.
  3. Entries must be typewritten or word-processed on one side only of A4 paper, double spaced with wide margins
  4. Manuscripts should carry no identification other than the title, and consecutive page numbers. Each entry should include a title page carrying the author’s name, address and the title of the story. (An entry form is not obligatory but is recommended if an appraisal is requested.)
  5. Any number of entries may be submitted at £3 per first entry, £2 for each subsequent entry (sterling cheques or postal orders payable to Lichfield & District Writers, please). Entrants requiring an appraisal must also include a further £4 per appraisal requested. An entry fee of 6 IRCs per entry will be accepted from non-UK entrants only (10 IRCs per appraisal). Not IMOs, please.
  6. No manuscripts will be returned unless an SAE of suitable size carrying sufficient postage is enclosed. Contestants must keep a copy of their work.
  7. No entrant may win more than one cash prize.
  8. Short-listed entrants and winners will be notified by post mid-March 2009.
  9. Entry to the competition implies acceptance of the rules.

 

If acknowledgement of receipt is required please include a stamped addressed postcard.

If a copy of the short-listed entries and prize-winners is required, please include a small SAE (IRCs from overseas). The results will also be sent with returned mss. and appraisals.

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

While the greatest possible care will be taken of all entries, the organisers accept no responsibility for loss or damage to mss.

Proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of delivery.

About Lichfield and District Writers

L&DW was formed in 1990 to encourage and support writing in the Lichfield area and improve the facilities for writers of all abilities and all genres. We run workshop sessions and hold in-house poetry competitions as well as manuscript nights, and visiting speakers are a regular event. Visitors are always welcome.

Appraisals are carried out independently of the competition judging by qualified teachers of creative writing and published writers according to a comprehensive format. They will be issued in mid-March 2009 together with the results and final placing of the competition.

Manuscripts will only be returned if an SAE of appropriate size carrying sufficient postage is enclosed. Mss. for appraisal may be lightly marked.
