Michael Ireland (from Thorpe)

SITE LAST UPDATED June 4th, 2,006 (links are probably updated more often!); - I try to put something fresh on this site quite often, so please come back soon. Thanks for visiting my first attempt at creating a website. I'm not too experienced at computing, so feel free to send me any constructive comments you may have. I was born near here on 16/10/1937; I'm married to Jackie (Pitt) & we've just celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary; we have two sons, John & Mark. His wife is Lucy (Thompson) - they have a son, Luke, & a daughter, Sarah Eve. After loads of research, I traced my family tree back to the 1700s, mainly through investigations in Norwich Public Record Office, when I was more mobile & way back before the fire at The Central Library. Educated at Hillside Ave C.P.S., Thorpe St Andrew & Norwich School. After 24 years with the TSB (latterly in administration), I moved to Broadland District Council for 13 years until early retirement through ill health in September 1994. I was fortunate in that throughout all my working career I was occupied with my major interests of working with figures & statistics. For just over 20 years I was treasurer of the Norwich Branch of the British Diabetic Association (since June 2000, the name has been changed - to protect the innocent? - to the Norwich Group of Diabetes UK) & chairman for slightly less time. The terms ran concurrently, so my retirement presentation was inscribed "for 40 years' service" - I am now president. My other former treasurerships included periods for Norwich Tape Recording Society (which became Norwich Audio Society, then Norwich Hi Fi Club), UNISON in Broadland(formerly NALGO)& Thorpe Men's Institute. Nowadays, I find time for writing verse. computing (I'm a "Silver Surfer"!) & listening to the excellent output of BBC Radio Norfolk. Sometimes I do two at the same time - sometimes all three, but not too often!
