LORD JERSEY F.A.

The Lord Jersey Association has been in existance for well over 100 years, the first Jersey Cup competition was in 1887/88 when Middleton Stoney beat Deddington 4-2. The Association is named after Lord Jersey who's seat and estate is in the area covered by the Lord Jersey Association. League football did not appear to start until around the time of the Second World War, at first there was only One Division, but by 1952/53 there were three. The Association peaked in 1983 when a 4th division was added, for the 1995/96 season there were three divisions. To be correct the Division's are called Jersey Shields and the whole set-up is never refered to as a league. Sadly for the 1999/00 season the league had lost so many clubs that inter divisional games had to be played. Division Two consisted of only four sides, two of which were Merton and Merton Reserves.

The area covered by the Association is from the Chilterns in the East to the Cotswolds in the West to Oxford in the South and Banbury in the North the scenary and countryside is very pleasant. Rules state that clubs should refrain spectators from entering the field of play so some grounds are roped off, also a number of clubs have Social Facilities.

In the past Brill United who progressed to the Chiltonian League plus at least six of the current Oxon Senior League clubs have played in the Lord Jersey Association. At the end of the season numerous Cup Finals are played all being evening kick-offs except the Jersey Cup which is played on Easter Monday or May Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. A programme is issued for each final.
