Hammerlock TV Episode 2

Hammerlock TV Episode #2
Broxbourne Civic Hall
Your commentary team is Adam Wheeler and Chris Freeman.

The show opens with a video package recapping the outcomes of the first round of Heavyweight Championship tournament matches. In the arena, “Hey Man Nice Shot” by Filter hits and a solemn looking "Shotgun" Steve Bailey made his way out to provide colour-commentary on the pending Group A tournament match. Of course, Bailey had to withdraw from the tournament due to a back injury at the hands of Byson in round 1, leaving Group A with only three wrestlers for the duration of the group stage. Wheeler and Freeman questioned Bailey about why he was out there, but Bailey refused to answer and remain stone-faced. Byson then made his way out for his match and headed for the announcers' table. Byson beat his chest and yelled, bringing Steve Bailey to his feet. Referees and road agents quickly arrived on the scene to prevent any physicality, much to the chagrin of the fans in attendance. Bailey returned to his seat without ever taking his eyes off Byson. If Midnight Blue can pick up the win here, he'll advance to the next stage of the tournament.

[NWA-UK Hammerlock Heavyweight Title Tournament Group A, Round 2]:
Midnight Blue and Byson battled to a draw in 0:15:00.
Rating: ** 1/2

Match analysis:
Byson took control of this bout early, but stopped his momentum to briefly to spit at Steve Bailey at ringside. Bailey immediately left the commentary table and tripped Byson as he came off the ropes. The referee could have easily called for the bell, but showed leniency in such an important match-up as Midnight Blue scored with a spinebuster slam and a hard lariat for a near fall. Byson surprised Blue with a vicious power bomb, but was denied victory as Blue desperately draped a leg over the bottom rope. A facerake swung the advantage back in Blue's favour, but Byson was able to kick out of a jack-knife power bomb and a nice German suplex. As Serenity, one of Blue's co-stars, distracted the official, Steve Bailey threw the ring bell to Midnight Blue. Ever the opportunist, Blue cracked it against Byson's skull and covered, but Byson kicked out at the last second! Scottie Hero, the other participant in Group A, then made his way out to ringside and confronted Bailey about his actions in the contest. Midnight Blue was distracted by the argument at ringside, allowing Byson to back suplex him twice and connect with a double underhook suplex. Blue wasn't finished though and attempted his Blue Light Special, a Northern Lights Bomb, but he couldn't get Byson up for it. The time limit ran out soon after, leaving both men with a point apiece. This was good news to Midnight Blue, as with Bailey withdrawing from the tournament he becomes the first man to advance to the second round, no matter what the outcome is of next week’s match.

After the bell, Byson grabbed a chair and cracked it across Scottie Hero's back. Hero went down hard as Bailey attempted to make the save. Bailey pounded away at Byson with right hands, but Byson drove him back-first into the ring apron, possibly causing further damage to Bailey's back. Shotgun writhed around on the mats at ringside in agony, while Byson stood over the broken bodies of both men and beat his chest victoriously. Next week on Hammerlock TV will feature Byson going up against Scottie Hero, with the winner assured of a place in the next round!

Our next bout on Hammerlock TV featured two men not involved in the tournament and who didn't appear too happy about it last week. First out is M.J., a fitness trainer from Telford who boasts an impressive muscular physique. He has a very powerful and destructive arsenal of moves which includes the spinning backbreaker, the front-layout suplex and the Soviet suplex. His opponent is "The Air Devil" Martyn Sullivan, who used to be one half of the punk rock loving, high flying, charismatic former NWA-UK World Tag Team Champions known as the Punk Junkies with partner Twitch. When Twitch decided to leave Hammerlock in late August 2001, Sullivan decided to revert to the singles ranks. His reckless style in the ring proves that he has no regard for his own well-being as he utilises moves such as the slingshot ropeflip moonsault, spinning headscissors and several planchas. Sullivan is perhaps the most promising high-flyer in Hammerlock.

Martyn Sullivan pinned M.J. with the Flying Headbutt in 0:09:49.
Rating: ** 1/2

Match analysis:
This was a solid encounter between two superstars who are desperate for recognition from Hammerlock management. After dominating most of the near ten-minute bout, M.J. missed a flying clothesline. It would prove costly as Sullivan planted M.J. with a power bomb and then utilised a beautiful flying headbutt for the victory.

The Hammerlock Heavyweight Title Tournament continues after this short break!

Cuthbert D. Fharquar, £500 poorer after brutalising a referee last week, really needs a victory here against Junior Jones as a result of his time limit draw with Bryan Campbell. But a win in this one is much more important to Jones because if were to lose it would be his second in the group and he would have no chance of advancing to the second stage. These two men know each other extremely well, as their paths crossed in a bitter feud back in 2001.

[NWA-UK Hammerlock Heavyweight Title Tournament Group B, Round 2]:
Cuthbert D. Fharquar defeated Junior Jones when Junior Jones passed out in
the Stretch Plum in 0:04:43.
Rating: ***

Match analysis:
Junior Jones went for the win straight away, taking Fharquar down with a DDT immediately for a near fall. Fharquar soon turned the tide after surviving Jones' initial flurry of offence and almost had his hand raised after a very nice dragon suplex. Fharquar then locked on the Stretch Plum and although Jones fought it gallantly, he had no choice but to tap out, leaving the aristocrat undefeated and top of Group B.

Next up is The Punisher, who looked very impressive last week as he destroyed Junior Jones. He would advance to the second stage with a win here, but that is most definitely not a given against "The Blue Chipper" Bryan Campbell. Campbell was perhaps a bit lucky to pick up a point last week, as he tasted Cuthbert Fharquar's Silver Spoon finisher just as the time limit expired. He'll need to get back in the game here on Hammerlock TV tonight.

[NWA-UK Hammerlock Heavyweight Title Tournament Group B, Round 2]:
Bryan Campbell pinned The Punisher with the Chip Off The Old Block in 0:10:52.
Rating: ***

Match analysis:
Bryan Campbell wrestled an extremely intelligent match here, working over the legs of his much stronger and bigger opponent and applying an Indian deathlock. The Punisher tried turning it into slugfest and there was only one winner in that situation, as he almost broke Campbell in half with a devastating spear. Later, Campbell was able to lock on an achilles tendon hold. The Punisher escaped the hold but it had visibly taken its toll, as Campbell capitalised with his Chip Off The Old Block flying side kick for the three count! Campbell had made his father proud with a very accomplished performance.

Circuit information:
Steve Bailey has been banned from ringside for the Scottie Hero vs. Byson match next week. If he violates this ruling he will be suspended.

Group standings after round 2:
Group A:
Midnight Blue 2
Scottie Hero 1

Byson 1

Group B:
Cuthbert D. Fharquar 4
Bryan Campbell 3

The Punisher 3
Junior Jones 0

Groups A and B are tighter than ever. If either Hero or Byson win next week, they'll advance to stage two along with Midnight Blue. However, should it end in a draw, then all three men left in the group will have two points each!

Cuthbert Fharquar is at the top of Group B along with Bryan Campbell, both men have four points. The Punisher is third with three points, whilst Junior Jones does not have any points and is eliminated from the tournament. Fharquar faces The Punisher next week with the winner going through; Bryan Campbell, as good as advanced, will go up against Junior Jones and a victory will see the Blue Chipper through to stage two.

Join us this week for Saturday Fight Night, where we will witness round two of Groups C and D! Till then, so long everybody!!!
