Saturday Fight Night results - 23/06/01

June 23rd, 2001

Angel Centre, Tonbridge, Kent

Attendance: 1,750

TV rating: 3.65

(The scene opens inside the Angel Centre in Tonbridge, where there are nearly 2000 fans on their feet awaiting another superb night of Hammerlock wrestling action on Saturday Fight Night! The camera sweeps around the frenzied crowd before zooming in to the commentary table, where Chris Freeman and Adam Wheeler are seated.)

Chris Freeman: Hello everyone and welcome to the Angel Centre here in Tonbridge, Kent, where we are ready for another blistering evening of action brought to you by NWA-UK Hammerlock! Now the big news around Hammerlock, which was just announced earlier this afternoon, is that a World Championship Tournament will begin this Monday night on Hammerlock TV!

Adam Wheeler: Freeman, that is huge news. There has been a certain atmosphere in the locker room ever since that information was disclosed; a more intense atmosphere, one of focus and concentration. You can bet that everybody will be out here this evening to impress before the tournament brackets are announced!

CF: Yes, certainly most of our big stars will be in action this evening and they’ll be hoping to stamp their authority on the competition with GrandSlam just over a week away. But notwithstanding the World Title Tournament, a single elimination tournament to crown the first ever World Television Champion begins right here on Saturday Fight Night next week, which will also culminate on July 1st on pay-per-view!

AW: There is so much going on right now here at Hammerlock and I’m so excited to be a part of it! Don’t forget that the World Tag Team Titles will be decided at GrandSlam as well!

CF: That’s very true, and speaking of tag teams, what a fantastic main event we have in store for you tonight! “The Legacy” Luke Champion teams up with Migraine to take on “Picture Perfect” Jason Prentice and “Blue Chipper” Bryan Campbell!

AW: That match is going to be something else because there is so much bad blood and hatred between the participants. In fact, some of that animosity charged an impromptu confrontation earlier this evening!

CF: It sure did, we’ll show you that in just a little bit…

(“Linchpin” by Fear Factory starts to blast over the arena speakers.)

CF: Well, we are just about ready to start here on Saturday Fight Night and by the sounds of things, The Byson is loose!

Byson pinned Rick Knight after a tiger driver in 0:12:59.

Rating: * 1/2

CF: What a great win there for Byson, totally steamrolling over Rick Knight!

AW: And an important, confidence-building win with that World Title Tournament right around the corner.

Post-match:

(Society Bites hit the ring and begin to stomp away at Rick Knight’s fallen body. Byson then mows them both down with a hard double clothesline! He picks up Knight and plants him with the Bull Rutt, just as Knight’s tag team partner Gaz Phillips tries to intervene. He unloads with a barrage of punches on Byson, who nonchalantly shrugs them off and then boots Phillips low, before crushing him with a vicious power bomb!)

CF: My God! Byson has just taken apart four men!

(Byson leaves the ring and stalks the commentators. He grabs Adam Wheeler by the throat and lifts him out of his chair, so that they are face-to-face. Byson snarls and growls at the petrified colour man.)

Byson: I want MY title! I want my GODDAMN TITLE!!! I WANT IT! Byson. Byson. They will scream the name of BYSON!!!

(Byson throws Wheeler back down in his chair and exits the ringside area, signalling that he wants the gold around his waist.)

CF: Are you okay?

(Wheeler takes a sip of water and straightens his jacket.)

AW: No I’m not okay!!! Where the hell were you?! You should have got in front of me!

CF: Yeah, right!

AW: That guy is crazy. He’s out of his mind! The only thing he cares about is winning that World Title at GrandSlam!

CF: And who says he won’t do it?

AW: Not me, that’s for damn sure!

CF: Another man who is eager to entertain the idea of becoming Hammerlock’s first ever World Champion is Smashmouth, who is up next against “The Pride of East London” Ian Powers.

AW: Powers is gonna have his work cut out here. Let’s just hope they keep their hands off me, or I might do something I regret!

CF: Oh, I’d pay money to see that!

AW: Believe me Freeman, I’d take you out for free!

Smashmouth pinned Ian Powers with the Hospitaliser in 0:14:07.

Rating: *** 1/4

CF: Wow, Powers gave it his all, but nothing was stopping Smashmouth tonight.

AW: Even Powers’ educated fists weren’t having an effect on the big 300 pounder.

Post-match:

Smashmouth dragged Powers’ broken body back off the mat and hammered him again with the devastating Hospitaliser. Smashmouth then stood over Powers’ battered form and signalled that he wanted the World Championship around his waist to a round of boos.

CF: You know, there was no call for that second power bomb.

AW: Freeman, Smashmouth means business. This is no time to be fannying around. He wants to prove that he isn’t to be messed with.

CF: He’s 6’6” and 308 pounds. Why the hell would anybody mess with him?!

AW: I take your point. Well, he just slapped Powers around a little bit more…because he can.

CF: Ladies and gentlemen, as we eluded to earlier, a bit of an altercation occurred this evening before we came on air, as Luke Champion was arriving at the arena. Let’s show you what happened.

(The scene opens with Luke Champion walking through the entrance doors. Bryan Campbell runs in and slams the door, sandwiching Champion against the wall. The Legacy hits the deck, clutching his ribs. Migraine then shows up and attacks Campbell. The two brawl out of shot, followed by a host of security guards and road agents. Suddenly, Jason Prentice and Linda O’Neil appear. Prentice grabs a wooden plank and breaks it across the back of Champion’s head. He then drives it hard into Champion’s already injured ribs, before taking Linda by the hand and scurrying away.)

CF: What a miserable excuse for a human being!

AW: Hey, here at Hammerlock, you take whatever advantage you can.

CF: You wouldn’t be saying that if Champion had blindsided Prentice.

AW: Prentice is too smart to let that happen.

CF: Next up here on Saturday Fight Night, the masochistic masseur M.J. teams up with Society Bites to battle “Shotgun” Steve Bailey and The Punk Junkies in six-man tag team action.

AW: Should be a great match. This all stemmed from an incident that occurred on Hammerlock TV last week when Bailey defeated M.J. in a tournament final. M.J. didn’t take too kindly to it and destroyed Bailey after the bell, because Bailey ain’t in his league.

CF: Society Bites and The Punk Junkies have a history as well, so get ready!

Society Bites and M.J. defeated The Punk Junkies and Steve Bailey when M.J.

made Brainstorm submit to the Total Body Workout in 0:03:48.

Rating: ** 3/4

CF: My God, that Total Body Workout looks excruciating!

Post-match:

The Bodysnatchers hit the ring with that familiar bodybag and attempted to stuff Brainstorm into it. Twitch made the save for his partner and the two teams brawled to the back. Steve Bailey then returned to the ring and booted a gloating M.J. in the stomach, before planting him with the Revolver! Bailey then hooked up M.J. and nailed him with the Pistol Whip to a huge pop.

CF: The dispute between M.J. and Bailey is definitely not over.

AW: And The Bodysnatchers came out looking to bury Brainstorm ahead of GrandSlam! There are so many issues going on here at Hammerlock at the moment!

CF: Coming up, one of the favourites to lift the NWA-UK World Championship, The Iceman Ben Winter, will take on the dangerous Hiro Kakuhari.

AW: Kakuhari has to ground Winter here. He CANNOT match power with The Iceman, or else this’ll be over in seconds. Kakuhari must work on Winter’s legs in this contest if he wants to stand any chance of winning.

CF: Kakuhari is a very intelligent competitor. Let’s see what happens.

Ben Winter pinned Hiro Kakuhari after a series of stomps in the corner in

           0:11:40.

Rating: ** 1/4

AW: My God! Winter just threw Kakuhari in the corner and stomped the hell out of him!

CF: It ain’t fancy, but there’s never been any finesse about The Iceman. Whatever it takes, I guess!

AW: Kakuhari now has a few footprints in his forehead to go with all those scars on his body!

Post-match:

Ben Winter stood on the turnbuckles and signalled that he wants the NWA-UK World Championship around his waist to his adoring fans.

CF: Who’d bet against Ben Winter? He’s mowing down anybody that gets in his way with frightening ease.

AW: I think Winter has just exhibited why he is one of the strong favourites to take the title. He’s very powerful and he doesn’t care how he wins, just as long as he does.

CF: Another Hammerlock powerhouse is scheduled up next, Da Bomb Robbie Anthony, who has been on one hell of a tear lately.

AW: That’s true, he has been very impressive in recent weeks. But he’s up against “Everybody’s Favourite Wrestler” Devon Ferrari, who is a very conniving and sneaky individual. If anybody can steal a victory against Anthony, it’s Devon Ferrari.

CF: And Anthony cannot afford any slip-ups with the impending World Title Tournament. A win against Ferrari would be a valuable confidence booster.

Robbie Anthony pinned Devon Ferrari with the Detonation in 0:07:56.

Rating: *** 1/2

CF: Nobody gets up from The Detonation.

AW: I don’t think that Ferrari will ever get up from The Detonation. He’ll still be there next week.

Post-match:

Robbie Anthony runs his hands around his waist, motioning that he wants the World Championship belt there.

CF: Well, several superstars have been very impressive out here this evening. This World Championship tournament is going to extremely close, you can count on that.

AW: That’s right. There are so many guys who are capable of winning it, but only one man can.

CF: Cuthbert D. Fharquar is standing by backstage with Kelly.

Cuthbert D. Fharquar interview.

(Fharquar is standing alongside Kelly, who is holding a microphone, in front of an NWA-UK Hammerlock partition.)

Kelly: Mr. Fharquar, how are you feeling after the events that occurred on Hammerlock TV? Has your defeat at the hands of “The Upset Kid” Junior Jones sunk in yet?

(Fharquar looks disgusted.)

Fharquar: Miss Kelly, I am appalled and revolted that such blatant cheating can occur here at Hammerlock! Junior Jones is a nobody. I, on the other hand, am nobility. I am upper class. I am a world-class athlete. My consummate athletic prowess is unparalleled and to have a young punk kid steal a win against me is reprehensible! Do you know how discomfited I am? How humiliated I have felt? I can barely show my face in public. I have never been so ashamed…

(Junior Jones bursts in, interrupting.)

Fharquar: Excuse me young man, who do you think you are?! This is my section of the broadcast and you have no right to barge in here…

Jones: Aww, shut up man! What are you crying about anyway? I beat you. Get over it, and dry your eyes!

Fharquar: Listen to me! You got extremely fortunate against me and it’ll never happen again!

Jones: Yeah, right!

Fharquar: Oh, would you like to prove it, young man? I challenge you to step in the ring with me this Monday!

Jones: Why should I? I don’t need to prove anything to you! I’ve already beaten you…

Fharquar: Oh, I thought you might say that, so I have a little prerequisite in mind. You get in the ring with me, and I’ll put up £1,000 of my own money. It’s the easiest cash you’ll ever make.

Jones: A grand?

Fharquar: All you have to do is wrestle me one more time.

(Jones thinks the proposal over.)

Jones: No thanks. You can stick your dirty money.

(Jones walks off defiantly as Fharquar looks on, aghast.)

AW: That little idiot! Does he know who he’s talking to?! That’s Cuthbert D. Fharquar, ESQUIRE!

CF: Yeah, the guy he pinned in the centre of the ring!

AW: He’s also the guy that slapped Jones around after the Rumble on Monday. The Upset Punk will be a hell of a lot more than just upset when Fharquar gets his hands on him again. He should learn to respect the aristocracy!

CF: That doesn’t look as if it will happen any time soon. I think that shows just how embarrassed Fharquar is; he tried to bribe Jones to get in the ring with him again!

AW: A great man once said that “everybody’s got a price”. I would have thought that Junior Jones’ was considerably less than £1,000.

CF: That’s not a very nice thing to say! £1,000 is a hell of a lot money to most people!

AW: What, poor people?!

CF: Well…it’s just about time for our main event here on Saturday Fight Night, where two bitter ongoing disputes will be amalgamated into one as Luke Champion teams with Migraine to battle Jason Prentice and Bryan Campbell.

AW: And how will the attack earlier tonight which resulted in Jason Prentice bruising Luke Champion’s ribs affect the outcome of this match? Even breathing is difficult when your ribs are hurt.

CF: I do know that Champion is tough and with the frame of mind that he has been in lately, he’ll smash the pain barrier just to get his hands on Picture Perfect.

AW: I, for one, cannot wait for this one.

Jason Prentice and Bryan Campbell defeated Luke Champion and Migraine when

Prentice pinned Migraine with the Perfect Plant in 0:17:18.

Rating: *** 1/4

AW: Hey, that was Picture Perfect!

CF: Migraine bites the dust courtesy of the Perfect Plant, but we aren’t done here!

Post-match:

(Jason Prentice climbs the turnbuckle and works the crowd like a true professional, much to the chagrin of the fans. Luke Champion swipes a chair from ringside and returns to the ring, making a beeline for Prentice. Picture Perfect sees Champion coming and swiftly leaves the ring, but in his haste stumbles off the ring apron and falls, landing awkwardly at ringside. Prentice screams in pain and Linda O’Neil appears genuinely concerned, signalling for the paramedics to come out and tend to her man.)

AW: Oh God, we need help out here.

CF: Prentice is holding his ankle and seems to be in a whole world of pain.

(Luke Champion and Migraine look on from the ring as paramedics check on Prentice. After some time, Bryan Campbell helps Jason Prentice back up to his feet. Prentice leans on Campbell and limps up the ramp. There are tears streaming down Linda’s face.)

AW: This doesn’t look good, Chris. Not good at all. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time.

CF: A very sad ending here this evening on Saturday Fight Night, we’ll hopefully bring you word on Jason Prentice’s condition on Hammerlock TV. Join us next Monday for the first round of the World Championship Tournament but for now I’m Chris Freeman for Adam Wheeler wishing you all a very good night.
