The basics
The Mosaic Mapping train simulators let you drive British diesels-hydraulics, diesel-electrics, HSTs and DMUs. The objective is high accuracy rather than the usual things you get in general interest games.

Special features:-
 All programs are bi-directional.
They cover alternate routes if appropriate (eg. Westbury Avoiding Line).
Realistic traffic-driven signalling (not gamelike challenges).
 Highly accurate loco performance.
Loco condition, train formation, the weather, etc. are all adjustable.
Option to ignore schedules (for timetable planning, editing real logs, etc.).
Relaxing journeys without a Big Brother judging you.
85 or more schedules per program (mainly HST & loco-hauled).

As at September 2001 there are three programs at £20 each (all inclusive):-

 Paddington - Bristol (including Didcot-Oxford)
 Paddington - Taunton (via Newbury).
Taunton - Plymouth (including Newton Abbot-Paignton).

Schedules tend to be for HSTs, Class 47's & Class 50's. However, all of the following are pre-installed and available to you:-

Diesel-hydraulic:-
Classes 22, 35 (Hymek), 42, 2x42 & 43 (Warships), 52 (Western).

Diesel-electric:-
Classes 17 (Clayton), 25, 33, 37(/0,/4), 45/1, 46, 47/4, 50, 53 ('Falcon'), 55 (Deltic). Also a theorhetical Super Deltic (proposed in the 1960's).

Diesel Multiple Units:-
253 (7 & 8 trailer HST), 117, 153, 156, 158, 165 and Blue Pullman.

Electric:-
Class 91

The above include some not used on the routes in real life. This is a key feature of the system. It will drive them just as accurately so you can (in effect) rewrite history.

Train formations are by default the booked ones. But you can also change them to anything you like using a library of 113 carriage/van types. Performance is computed using the chosen formation, loco condition, wind speed, heating and passenger loads. It's very easy to adjust these if you wish to.
