I would also welcome suggestions from all and sundry as to what might be of most use to others withor searching for family links to the LAVER name. So get in touch right now.
My branch of the LAVER family seems to hang out in the South Essex area around Billericay, Great Burstead, Stock, Fobbing, Laindon and Stanford Le Hope area. I would welcome any info from this area for my personal interest BUT feel free to mail me with any other items and I will attempt to post them to this site as soon as possible.

We start with a Thomas LAVER (dates as yet un known). Thomas's son William married Elizabeth HARRIS [daughter of Thomas HARRIS]June 4th 1838. This union produced John, Elizabeth, George and William LAVER. William (jr) married Mary Ann REED [daughter of James REED] May 24th 1879. This union seems to have been particularly well blessed as it produced Albert Charles, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Emily, Barner, and William. Emily married John DAINES (date unknown) and had at least one child who, after marriage seems to have become Dorothy Gladys PLUME. William (III) [my grandfather] was born November 27th 1878 and married Sarah Ann PRINCE. Sarah Ann was the daughter of Charles PRINCE born March 21st 1894 and who had married Sarah Ann Jane SHEFFIELD, and had siblings in the form of Charles Edward James PRINCE, Edith Mary, May, and Lilly (amongst possibly others as yet unconfirmed) Sarah Ann Jane SHEFFIELD was the daughter of a John SHEFFIELD and grand-daughter of John Alexander SHEFFIELD (who possibly had a brother William). Sarah Ann Jane was also sister to William, Joseph, James, John and Charles.
I must extend my apologies to users who have tried (in vain) to contact me over the last 12 months by e-mail. My E-mail provider sustained a 'direct hit' and sank without trace and at the same time I became unable to update this site. However all appears to be well again now and the Lycos e-mail address below is now an effective way to communicate with me should the need arise. (As of 18/08/2005)

Our prime motive for setting up this web page -
We aim to put on record the results of our researches (such as they may be) and to unashamedly solicit assistance from others. Now clearly we are NOT going to be related to everyone that shares our family names BUT we will nevertheless seek to include brief details of all persons holding the KEY NAMES on this page to provide a resource for others. Family history tracing can be such fun and very educational therefore we feel that the internet needs a few more sites which are there purely to promote this activity in a spirit of friendly free exchange having no association with commercial interest. Undoubtedly professional reseachers will make use of information posted on this page and it is therefore our hope that they will at least in payment return the 'favour' and leave behind a few items of further use to us 'amateurs'.
Some thoughts on ‘surplus’ names!!
When I started collecting postage stamps as a hobby I used to grab at anything that came along and built up a very general world-wide collection. BUT then the ‘experts’ stepped in (via books obtained form the local library) and they insisted that after an initial grounding I should then start to specialise in particular countries and/or themes. To some extent I obeyed for a while but found that the ‘fun’ went out of the game. So I reverted back to collecting whatever the hell I wanted to. If an aunt gave me a bundle of British stamps from postcards or a friend gave be the residue of correspondence with relatives back home in Nigeria I accepted them all with gratitude. Sure by that stage I had developed an interest in certain countries and themes which remain with me to this day but the collection as a whole is a lot more fun and far more interesting than if I had listened to the purists.
The family tree ‘game’ is much the same. When you start out you grab at everything that’s at all close to the trail that you sit at the end of. Then you become more focussed and stop following all sorts of odd little diversions such as branches formed by marriages. This is a shame as they all have a place in the family history as they would have all interacted with each other within their respective generations in some small way. Also along the way if you seek the company of others as you pursue your personal ancestry; perhaps through history societies, E-mail lists or just via chance meetings at Record offices; you may be ‘offered’ a whole host of peripheral information. It seems sad to discard such information when someone has gone to the trouble to ‘unearth’ it.
Thus our personal aims are to -
1. NOT be to restrictive when researching the names of personal interest to us.
2. RETAIN and to SHARE what we discover with others.
3. provide a location where others may DEPOSIT such information that they also wish to pass on.
To these ends we shall be spreading the word around about this particular site using whatever means are at our disposal. The WWW makes the world smaller and arguably contributes to making it a better, friendlier and more co-operative place. This is going to be our humble contribution towards this.
The following pages contain some LAVER NAME DETAILS that we have discovered along the way which may be of use to others. At the moment the details shown include our own reference numbering system, name, date of event, nature of event and a location at which the event occured. The whole list is held on a spread sheet within which there are details of the source of the information such that leads can be followed up and also (in some cases) other information about relationships. If you wish to follow up on any of the names please E-mail us detailing the reference number(s) that interest you and we will pass on the source details. Please feel free to add these pages to your favourites as they are sure to grow. We make no apologies for the bland appearance of these pages as it is felt that the information contained herein is of far greater importance than any amount of graphical toys.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NAMES ON THE LISTS ARE NOT TOTALY IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER AT THE PRESENT TIME. WHEN THE LIST IS CONSIDERABLY LARGER WE WILL CONSIDER REORDERING THE SPREAD SHEET AND RELOADING THE PAGES TO THIS LOCATION.
This section will include usefull links to other sites.
Mail me with suggestions - remember that they should be primarily of use to LAVER's or those seeking them!!!!
