Sands is located just 15 minutes from the ground of Celtic Football Club. It is easily accessible from all over west-central Scotland and currently draws its players from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Dumfries, Ayr and several spots around Lanarkshire. Most of the club's players are Coatbridge based or Irish born players working or living in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area.
Sands McSwineys have been frequent visitors to Ireland over the years and have made the Glasgow September holiday weekend the club's time for returning to its roots. Since jointly visiting Maghera Co.Derry, Crossmaglen Co.Armagh, Letterkenny Co.Donegal and Belfast with Pearse Harps in 1986, Sands have also visited clubs in Gortin Co.Tyrone, Killarney Co.Kerry, Nobber Co.Meath, Ballybay Co.Monaghan and Ardoyne and the Falls Road in Belfast, and have been frequent visitors to Watty Grahams Glen, Maghera, Co.Derry. The club has also hosted a number of teams from Mayo, Derry, Monaghan, Offaly, Dublin, Leeds as well as the senior Sligo squad as part of the County Board of Scotland's centenary celebrations in 1997. In 1994, Micky Moran, coach of 1993 All Ireland football winners Derry, brought the Sam Maguire trophy to Coatbridge to display to local football enthusiasts. Micky is an occasional visitor to Coatbridge to organise coaching sessions.
The following is a selection of current and former Sands officials and players who can be contacted
should any individual wish to join the club. Others wanting to pick up the sport are also welcome
to contact us. Although the club has traditionally been made up almost entirely of Irish born players
or 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation Irish, the team welcomes people of any religious or ethnic background.
Sands draw most of its players from the Coatbridge and Glasgow areas as well as from all over Ireland.
Almost all of Ireland's counties have been represented in past Sands teams.
