Legend would have it told...
that
well over 300 years ago the place named
"SellyOak" in the south of
Birmingham derived its name from a woman
named Sally Barn, a woman believed by some to
be a witch.
It is said that she was killed when villagers
drove an oak stake through her heart and
buried her where she fell, on that spot over
the years there grew an oak tree. From that
day the tree and the area around it became
known as "Sally's Oak", over the
years it became (through
changing dialect) Selly
Oak.
Over time the oak became tall and towered
over the rooftops, only to be fallen when
deemed unsafe.
Believing in the tale of the oak trees origin,
its sturdy butt was replanted in SellyOak
Park, where it can be seen to this very day.
The wisdom of those like Sally Barn still
live today...passed down through the years.
We
beleive that this site gives you the chance
