Whaley Bridge - aerial and other views
....a
different
point of view ....

You want to know about Whaley? Well, it's a pleasant little community in the foothills of the Peak District.

There are many excellent pages on the internet which describe the place well and readers are directed to these from the various links (this page, below).

The pages will tell you what Whaley Bridge is, but they will not tell you what it is not - and this can be just as important.

Quite simply then, it is not a 'town' even thought it was declared as such many years ago by the then local council. Whether the styling is technically right or wrong is bye the bye, the classification never sat well with such a pleasant little place.

So......Whaley Bridge is a village with adjoining villages, or a rural community, or an urban district.

Call it what you will with but one exception - never, never, never call it a town!
