Dublin is a paradise if you want to drink and have fun. It is the best place to drink Guiness. There is variety of pubs in Dublin ranging from traditional public houses to modern bars. Dublin Pubs have long been at the very centre of the city's social life and one of the best places to meet people. Pub Culture
Having a good time in Ireland is commonly known as having a bit of 'Craic'. Many Dublin pubs are renowned for their 'Craic' and 'Ceol' (music). The best way to experience it to visit a variety of pubs and experience the heart of the city and its traditions. The legal drinking age in Ireland is 18 and most bars will request identification so don't forget to carry a driver's licence or passport. Opening hours for pubs are Sunday - Wednesday 10.30am to 11.30am. Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30am. Many pubs in the city centre are granted licences at weekends. During the day, casual dress is acceptable, however neat dress is essential in the evenings. Famous Pubs include: Chief O'Neills Bar at Smithfield Temple Bar Temple Bar is a great area with lots of night life and has many pubs. I recommend you walk around the area and check out the different pubs. If you are there on a Saturday afternoon check out the market in the square, it is next to the Irish Film Centre. If you want to see some great music, then check out Whelans, which is located at 25 Wexford Street, Dublin 2. (Telephone: 01-4780766). There are many other venues. It is advisable to buy the local newspaper called Evening Herald when you are in town and check out the entertainment section. If you are in the suburbs, it worth visiting Slatterys Rathmines. You can also buy lots of foreign beers, I recommend Becks, Budweiser, Carlesberg and Heineken. If you want to try something different, Leffe from Belgium is nice.
