Aranhas
Os membros deste familiar e altamente bem sucedido grupo devem,
certamente, muito de seu sucesso ao uso extensivo da seda e do
veneno. Embora a maioria de espécies possuam o veneno, a
vasta maioria não é perigosa aos seres humanos. As
aranhas estão certamente entre os animais mais importantes
controlando populações de insetos. Por exemplo, consideráveis
pesquisas estão sendo feitas sobre maneiras de gerenciar
colheitas para incentivar as aranhas como meios importantes do
controle de pestes. Embora todas as aranhas usem a seda, nem todas
constróem teias para capturar suas presas.
Como nas outras ordens dos Aracnídeos, as diferenças
na especialização das patas foram muito importantes
na evolução das aranhas. A seqüência universal
dos apêndices das aranhas é depois das quelíceras,
os pedipalpos seguidos por quatro pares de patas usadas para deslocamento.
Os pedipalpos são usados como estruturas de acasalamento
pelas aranhas machos. São frequentemente muito complicados
e as diferenças em sua estrutura são características
importantes usadas por araneologistas na classificação
das aranhas. Pedipalpos em aranhas fêmeas é estruturalmente
muito mais simples e é usado para detectar o alimento, maniupulação
e às vezes na locomoção. É relativamente
fácil distinguir machos maduros ou quase maduros das aranhas
fêmeas (ao menos na maioria de grupos) olhando os pedipalpos
-- nas fêmeas parecem como patas mas menores e quando nos
machos as extremidades tendem a serem ampliadas, normalmente é assim.
Em aranhas juvenis essas diferenças não são
tão evidentes. |
