ET David 2000

Entertainment Tonight - David Arquette

August 25th, 2000

We caught up with David Arquette to get the story on his new special delivery, mafia, dogs, and how his marriage to Courteney Cox id holding up through it all!

Entertainment Tonight: I didn't realize that you were doing a little Robert De Niro for this film!
David Arquette: Yes, I do a little ode to Robert De Niro at one point.  There are a lot of silly references in this movie.

ET: You are very good at impersonations, so did you have any input as to any fun bits this character could do?
David: Yeah, I actually suggested that Anthony Anderson and I breakdance in one scene.

ET: We've seen you play all kinds of roles -- from drama to comedy, do you enjoy your role in this film -- the almost Buster Keaton-type character?
David: That's the fun thing about this movie, we had a lot of set pieces where we do some really wild things!  It's great to figure different things out when you're on the set.  In one scene, instead of just seeing this particular sign on the corner of the street I run into it, and fall down.  It's fun to get physical -- like Olivia Newton-John! (Laughs)

ET: Are you worried about being upstaged by a St Bernard?
David: I don't mind!  We have such a talented kid and such a talented dog in this film.  Angus T. Jones is such a good kid, with a great personality.  The other day I was running while holding him, and I accidentally dropped him -- he kind of started crying.  And then he told the director, "Now would be a good time to shoot one of those crying scenes."  It was great!  And that dog, I know he's smarter than I am!

ET: You've been married to Courteney Cox for over a year now, do you two have any thoughts about having kids?
David: Not right away, we're taking our time -- enjoying our freedom.

ET: Are you and Courteney often apart because of your work?
David: No, we're not often apart.  I've been able to see her on the weekends.

ET: What was your attraction to this film?
David: It had such a funny premise -- and it was great to play a mailman.  When I was growing up I had a great mailman named Carl -- he was just wonderful!

ET: Set the premise up for us, what's happening in this film?
David: It centers around a dog named Agent 11, who's an FBI agent that keeps busting the mafia for drugs.  Meanwhile, I have to babysit this kid (Angus), and the dog ends up joining us.  The mafia wants the dog killed, and that's where the adventure starts.

ET: In the film you have a crush on Leslie Bibb, who is very good looking.  Is there ever any jealousy from Courteney about those things?
David: No, Courteney is quite secure in our relationship.  It's just part of the business.

ET: Do you find it hard being famous or are you used to all the personal questions that you are asked?
David: It's good to keep your private life private.  One time we were being chased by some paparazzi guy.  We kept seeing him, and then he would run off.  Finally I came around him and asked him what he was doing.  I was like, "Just take the picture already!"
