The Emigrant hard aground. The deck cargo of timber has shifted to leeward.

The longevity of wooden ships could be surprising: the 367-ton Emigrant seen here ashore in the Avon at Bristol in 1905 was then sixty years old, having been built at Bremen in 1846, although rebuilt in 1877. the misfortune displays the ships deck layout clearly, obscured only by the deck cargo of timber baulks which have come adrift amidships.
