Kids love climbing, swinging, digging, splashing, driving, making a mess. Usually it's on your sofa/TV/bed. Children need exercise in order to develop properly, and these days there are less opportunities to for children to play outdoors. Public parks can be great places, but sometimes it is not possible or practical to take your children there. This site is all about stuff you can make and do quickly, simply and safely in your own back garden to encourage children to play. It is based on things I have tried with my own and visitors children. So get out you toolbox and let's play! (excuse the mess, this site is have found to be quite literally under construction) Some of the site is aimed at people who like DIY, do not let that put you off, the projects are simple and there is also quite a bit of stuff about comercialy available products, the things I have found to be good and also toys to avoid

The sections of the site are (hopefully) self explanatory.

  • Climbing is about building a simple and advanced climbing frames and slide, using a scramble net making a zipwire, tree houses/forts.
  • Swinging, all about making a swingy things, choosing a commercial swing.
  • Digging- plants to grow, simple sandpit, buying sand/gravel.
  • Splashing water and paint based fun.
  • Driving - choosing good value toys with wheels, how to choose a bike.
  • Safety how to break their fall, appropriate safety standards to look out for on toys.
  • Resources - where to get hold of the stuff I have used, as I live in the UK the resources section has a very UK bias, If any international visitors can suggest links, use the feedback page to contact me.
  • Feedback Any suggestions welcome, would you like more detail on anything, or any particular projects. also where any other links other than resources go.

This site will be subject to updates as I try other things out. My kids are only 2 and 3 at the moment but we get regular visits from 1 to 14 year olds ( who test all the toys virtually to destruction) , so hopefully this site will have something for everyone.

Thankyou for visiting. If you have a minute please support the charity I'm involved in, It will cost you nothing and you can even earn a few £££'s

Well Whaddyknow, This is now an award winning site, Hurrah!
