button swings , bucket swings , swing frames
Is it just my kids, or is being pushed on a swing THE thing they want to do down at the park? Babies can be started as soon as they can sit, be careful because kids heads are very heavy compared to their bodies and they need to build up strong neck muscles before they can take vigorous swinging. Just let them enjoy gentle swinging. I would advise you buy a ready made baby swing seat (bucket style) , they cannot hang on, so the seat must be stable.

Shortly after they can walk kids can use a button swing. <<<<<<<<<

Drill a hole in a circle of wood, put a bit of rope through it with a not in the bottom, and hang it from a tree or your swing frame. Start off with it just off the ground. Kids will push themselves around with their feet. It builds up great grip (useful for handwriting)

As the get older, try and find a taller mounting. If you have a tall tree with no lower branches try that, children will kick off from the tree and swing round it, your hair will go grey just watching.

There's not a lot to say about this. Useful from about 3 upwards. It can take kids a while to learn how to swing, and they will still ask to be pushed even then.
