History of
B-2A Stealth BomberB-2 Programme was initiated in 1978 as a high altitude bombe, but in 1983 to include low level. In October 1981, a development contract was issued by the US Air Force Systems Office.
The first B-2 (AV-1) made its maiden flight on 17th July, 1989. The first flight of the second B-2 (AV-2) was on October 19th, 1990. The sixth and last development B-2 first flew on February 2nd, 1993.
21 B-2A's (including all 6 of the development aircraft bought up to operational standard) are in use.
Future
It is rumoured that President George W Bush's Administration may revive the manufacture of the B-2A.
