Ashtan, Bastion of the North, lies on the northwest shore of the inhabited part
of the continent of Sapience. Possessing a port into the Sapphire Ocean, and
near to the great, fertile Mamashi grasslands, Ashtan has along with Shallam
dominated the northern part of the continent since the earliest days of the
Midnight Age.
Merchants flock the Central Market, the center of Ashtanite commerce, and the
Seaside Markets, where citizens may browse the various shops that were
originally set up for the crews of the ships docked nearby. Scholars may feel
drawn more toward Philosopher's Plaza, where they may debate upon the nature of
the universe. Warriors may feel inclined to visit the many armories stores that
line the famed market, testing out the tools they come across.
The citizenry of Ashtan has long stood for the principles of freedom, yet that
freedom has not come cheaply. Many lives have paved the way for this luxury.
Ashtanites have been known to go to great lengths to defend their city and the
freedoms within.
People from all walks of life are welcome to make their home in Ashtan, or to
simply drop by for a visit and browse the many wares. Ashtan's council is known
for strict enforcement of their laws, and will not accept ignorance as an
excuse. The laws are written in a journal at the city gates for all to view.

Shallam, the Jewel of the East, is, along with Ashtan, one of the two largest
cities on the continent.
Shallam is notable for its architecture, particularly its gilded domes, which
catch and reflect light for miles around, giving the city a glowing
appearance at sunset or under moonlight.
It is the home of the Priests and Paladins, the healers and crusaders of
Aetolia. Shallam is also the home of the guild of magic weavers known as
the Magi, who bend the energy of the arcane to do their bidding. Sentaari,
a guild of benevolent monks also call Shallam their home and use their
mastery over the body to defend her walls.
Shallamese citizens may sometimes be found defending the villagers in nearby
Jaru, and Shastaan from the frequent attacks on them by others who may do
them harm.
